Why do people share TMI (medical) info on FB?

Let me start by saying that :

I don't really if people brag about their children or how wonderful their hubby or wife is.

I don't mind if people wish others a happy birthday (even if that person doesn't have a FB avvount)

I don't mind if people share that their health is improving or they are receiving their last radiation treatment

I don't mind if they want to post religous quotes (even though it sometimes annoys me)

I don't mind if you want to bad mouth someone (even though I think it is in bad taste, go ahead and look like an @ss)


BUT.... why must people post their TMI medical issues? It isnt like they are asking for advice about it. I dont want to know that you are going to the clinic for another possible UTI. I dont want to know that you breast feed and found another small lump and hope it isnt another clogged duct.

Do people not have any shame or not want privacy on certain issues?

I agree with you wholeheartedly.

I also don't like when people air their dirty laundry on FB. Like my co-worker who had a fit a few weeks ago and made this huge post about how his wife asked him for a divorce that morning. His and her entire families were going back and forth fighting. Not cool.

Its annoying. I have a cousin that does this.

Bottom line....I really think its just a cry for attention.

I have no idea why or even how people can be so comfotable posting such private matters on the internet. There are a lot of over-sharers on FB and even on message boards. I know more about some LIFers then I do family members.

yeah sometimes people go overboard with what they share.

its not really tmi, but i have someone who posts like every other day about how her life sucks and how awful she has it. It drives me nuts bc its a huge cry for attention. She just wants everyone to respond and say nice things about her. I don't even consider responding when she posts something like that.

i completely agree!

i have a "friend" who i am ready to un-friend. she's expecting her first child, in january. i wish her all the best.

but it seems that she and the baby's father have a rocky relationship. she's constantly posting about how she fears raising this child alone. the next day she'll post about how he is her world and she loves him so much... it will go back and forth every couple of days.

I think generally those who have no unspoken thought IRL are the same way on FB.

i post lots of random bizarre things that some people might not get so i specify what audience i want to view it or not. But for medical issues if it isn't a have a cold/flu why on earth would you post it?

oh, thank god I don't have that problem, non of my friends have posted anything like that so far there is not much that bothers me on FB -other than people who constantly complain about their jobs- but this would def bother me.

I agree.

An acquaintance posted something the other day about how her anxiety issues are flaring up.

I feel bad she's having these issues but, we aren't close and I feel that it's not info I should know about her, KWIM?
