If you have delivered at Winthrop before and you BF'd

Does Winthrop have people who help you with BFing? I had planned on taking BFing classes but i am on bed rest now and wont be able to do so. So does Winthrop have someone there to show you what to do and stuff and are they really helpful? TIA!

i didnt BF but yes, the nurses are all well prepared to help. I was also offered a LC but I chose to FF

Yes I delivered there and I had taken a class, read a book, felt all prepared, and when they handed my son to me for the first feeding I literally had no clue where to begin! The delivery nurse was awesome and showed me exactly what to do. Then, on my 2nd day there, I was having trouble BFing after his circumcision bc he was still a little out of it and another nurse showed me a diferent position which was really helpful and gave me some tips for waking him up during feedings. When he was 6 weeks old he ended up in the hospital with what we later found out was a milk protein allergy. While I was there, I had to pump and one of their LC's spent over an hour with me helping me and talking me through it. She asked if I had any questions about BFing in general. She even came back to check on me a couple times before we went home. So to answer your question. I found them VERY helpful! GL with everything!

Yes...ask for Betty the LC. She was a godsend! So much better than the other LC I dealt with there. Because DS was in the NICU for a week and they gave him formula, I had SUCH a hard time with the BF and getting him to latch. Betty worked with me the whole week I was there and I credit her 100% for being able to BF now. If it weren't for her, I'd definitely be FF right now. Make sure to utilize the LCs. It's totally free and they will give you things like the gel soothies and nipple shields if you ask.

My husband works as a ped resident and when he was on the floor he used to call her betty the boob whisperer. Apparently she's good!

They are all great!!! I delievered there via C-section and she was at my DD was at my boob within minutes!

All the nurses and LC were VERY helpful, BUT... I would make sure you have a sign in your lil crib saying BF Baby only and NO BOTTLES or NIPPLES if that is what you choose... I had a sign in mine and some nurses still forgot and slipped a formula bottle on the bottom of her crib for me to feed her... just out of habit I guess...

I guess I am in the minority but I did not find them helpful. If anything I felt lke they pressure you with the charts and timing feedings. I dont believe I met Betty though. Good Luck!

They have a lactation consultant, I called for her 5 times and she never showed. But luckily a couple nurses were able to help me.
