winterizing windows/drafts...sooo cold

ridiculously cold...... i know it's from the windows.

who has caulked them up for the winter? or what else have you done to prevent cold air from seeping in?

can't afford new windows yet.

I haven't done anything yet but I know that you can buy these shrinkwrap kits at home depot they were not that expensive - I think 20 bucks for a 10 pack or something. You use a hairdryer to seal the window and just peal them off in the spring.

We have really old windows too, we have to redo all the gunk on the outside of them but haven't had time. They are wood...

We have horrible horrible old wood windows that are rotting... augh. We rent, so no new windows for us.. LOL. We spent waaay too much in oil last year, so this year we are doing EVERYTHING we can find. We so far put the plastic that the PP mentioned on the front windows, and already what a difference!! Now, since it's finally getting cold enough, we are going to put this cork stuff around the wood, and then DH is going to put this filler stuff in for double protection. It's all super cheap at Lowes or HD, and they keep it all together, so just go nuts with it all..that's what we did LOL

You can also try insultated curtains. They're pretty reasonable at Walmart/Target.

When we rented, we always had to put the plastic shrink wrap stuff on the windows. It's clear plastic, so you can still see out your windows, and when you dry it on with the hair dryer, it makes the plastic taut.

We've also sprayed some foam stuff in the openings around the windows. It expands and closes up the holes where the cold air is coming in.

DH just put this foam stuff where all our vents are and the attic. Our Bedroom window also has a draft so we took that gray foam- I used to use it when I had my air- conditioner in my bedroom window, and he basically spread that out around the window- I'n not sure the name of it though- Sorry. We also use those energy efficient curtains/drapes

We recently got new windows, but before that we would use the plastic shrinkwrap stuff and it worked great.

I still use it on my wall a/c's before I put the cover on them as well.
