that lady was was rude- asking your sister that was completely inappropriate

but for the other people on this thread- why is it necessary to turn this into a catholic church bashing Chat Icon sorry but some of your stories just have no place here- yes the catholic church has rules if you want to get married there- just like I imagine a temple would if you wanted to get married there- but there are a lot of good priests that go out of their way to help- you cant blame an entire religion for how you were treated by one person

ITA that the lady was rude, no doubt and I totally agree with you about the RC Church bashing.

When I got married, we got married at the hall. At the time I was not drawn to the Church for my ceremony.
Four years later I got pregnant. I decided I wanted to start going back to Church. I went to confession but the priest could not grant me absolution because I was, according to the Church, living in sin as my marriage was not recognized by the Church. I did not get mad at the Church - it's their rule. I could have walked away but since it was important to me, I got a second marriage license and had a private ceremony with our parents and priest and made the sacrament. If it was important enough to me to be married in the Catholic Church, I had to follow the guidelines. Plain and simple.

I agree with them having their rules. Like I said, it was important to my DH. I followed the rules, I never got mad at them for anything. The priest made me feel bad by saying I was not yet a child of the Lord, although I had been baptized, but I am starting my RCIA program to complete my sacraments. That wasn't so great, but it wasn't the religion I was mad at, it was just a poor choice of words on his part Chat Icon Chat Icon

I think it's terrible and awfully rude to assume your sister was unmarried because she was young. I would def. say something to her.
