Gender Neutral Names
So, I was emailing back and forth with pple at work and I answered one with...
"Shawn C*** has this order. He's had it since....."
Anyway, Shawn emailed me and said it's "She," but no worries b/c that happens a lot.
I feel like I do this all the time. Especially at work. When it's a foreign name I've never heard of I'll try and work around having to put "he" or "she"
anyone else?

Re: Gender Neutral Names
It happens sometimes, but I would never think Shawn to be a female name.

A co-worker's daughter's name is Shawn!
I've heard of a Kyle for a female...that my sister worked with.

Re: Gender Neutral Names
At preschool pick up today, another mom I was talking to was telling me "Johnny cried at lot at first, but is doing better now." I told her it must be a boy thing, since my boy did it too when he went to preschool but my DD didn't. Well, her Johnny is Gianni - a girl! I was so embarrassed!
She clearly said Johnny. I think even if she pronounced it Gi-ahni I still would have thought boy.

Re: Gender Neutral Names
This is really funny beacuse i had a situation like this today...
today i had to place an order for someone named Anthi... i had no clue if it was a male or female... and someone asked about it so I said I am placing "their" order today... lol i didnt want to say He or She...
But for Shawn, i would never think twice about writing "he"...

Re: Gender Neutral Names
I had someone from my church call work today to ask if DD was a girl or boy. They got the receptionist that told them girl, and when she told me, I thought to myself, why not just look at her middle name?
Then I realized I gave my DD two gender neutral names.

Re: Gender Neutral Names
DH's brother has an ambiguous name and he HATES it. When he was growing up, it was used more as a male name, but now it has moved onto more of a female name. He's sick of people saying "Oh I expected a woman!"--that s*cks in the professional world.
I might give a female child a slightly ambiguous name, but never a son. I want him to have a nice, sturdy male name.

Even if they pronounced it Gi-ahni i would still assume it was a boy!! just that it was spelled Gianni and not Johnny

Re: Gender Neutral Names
My name is Kristin, but I usually go by Kris.
I wrote a lot for my college paper under the name "Kris" and went gender neutral, because I wrote mainly about music and I felt like people would view my writing in a different way if the question of my gender was never answered for them.
But I've gone by Kris since I was a kiddo. I prefer it!

Yup, we named our son Mason. So far it's only boys that have that name.
I like the gender neutral for girls. It's cute

Parents that name their son Leslie, though, just make me wonder.......

Re: Gender Neutral Names
My sister's name is Devin. My parents were sure to give her a very feminine middle name (Margaret), but whenever we signed her up for soccer or something when she was little, they put her as a boy.
ETA: To me, Sean is masculine, Shawn is feminine.

I get this ALL the time but with my last name. My married last name is the same as a common girls name (just spelled differently), so essentially I have two girl first names as my name.
Whenever someone asks for my last name, I tell them, and then they inevitably go "No, your last name" to which I know reply "No, that is my last name. I understood the question."

Well i work for a Japanese company, and many of Japan co-workers , I can't distinguish if they are female or male......so at least we can use "san" like "Smith san" can be used for a Ms. or Mr in Japan.
