Do all twin mommies go on bedrest?

I was wondering how realistic it is to think I'll be able to work right to the end with the twins? When I was pregnant with my DS I worked till my due date which was a Friday and gave birth to him that following Monday. I'm assuming it wont be that easy this time around. Do all women pregnant with twins wind up on bedrest at some point? Is commuting into the city to work unrealistic in the last few weeks? Im just trying to figure out my vacation/sick time for next few months. Thanks!

At 34 weeks I was told to stop working full time and I had my two at 35 weeks. So no not everyone is put on bedrest.

I was so glad to read this post. I keep hearing that everyone with twins goes on bedrest. Im so nervous about having to stop working early. I only get 4 weeks paid....so money is going to be tight. I hope I can work till the end.

Everyone is different. I ended up going out on bed rest but getting a late cerclage stitch put in, I probably could've went back to work but I wanted to stay safe and I stayed out on disability. It was okay bc I got paid for most of the time I was out.

I was on bedrest, but not strict. Basically it was the only way my pre-term contractions would stop, but my doctor was not strict with it since it started "late" at 34 weeks. I had the babies at 36w6d. I worked from home from 35 weeks until the day they were born. And I continued working from home the next day in the hospital room.

i dont know if you will be able to work as long as you did with DS but you may be able to go pretty far if you have a good pregnancy.
i was on bed rest for a month from 20 weeks to 24 weeks due to shortened ccervix. went back to work for 5 weeks and was out for good due to high blood pressure, i wasn't on strict bed rest just modified, really was told just to relax to keep pressure down.
I had the girls at 36 weeks.

spinoff to bed rest question

Thanks for all the answers! Does anyone have a physical job? I am a pediatric physical therapist and I am on my feet all day.

Right now my cervix is in the short range of normal between 34 and 36 as it varies.

Do you think the combo of the 2 puts me more at risk for bed rest?

I guess what I am asking does anyone that has a physical job not be put on bed rest?

I was on strict bedrest at home and then in the hospital. I had a lot of complications. It was awful. I hope that you don't have to go on bedrest.

Re: Do all twin mommies go on bedrest?

I did not go on bedrest and was induced at 38wks. However, I wasn't working for the last 8wks, since school was out. I could have absolutely worked longer, but it would have been hard for me at the end.

Re: Do all twin mommies go on bedrest?

i was on bed rest for almost 20 weeks due to an incompetent cervix...it was horrible, but in the end my twins arrived safely at 35 weeks so that is the most important thing.

with my first PG i was put on bed rest for the last 4 weeks too so for me, it could just be my cervix and not necessarily bc of the twins...

Re: Do all twin mommies go on bedrest?

I was never put on bedrest but stopped working in my 33rd week (i had the boys at 36 weeks). I literally was having problems walking because one of the boys heads was so low. I am sure you have seen moms who waddle had the end of their pregnancy, that is what I was at and the pressure when I stood up was agonizing. So I stopped working and sat on the couch for 2 1/2 weeks until they came.

Re: Do all twin mommies go on bedrest?

I worked until 35 weeks. I was on modified bedrest - had to put my feet up in the evening, but I could continue working. I turned in my last set of grades and 2 days later one of the babies shifted and was right on my sciattic nerve. Thankfully I was no longer working, but I spent the last 2 weeks pretty much sitting or laying down. I went into labor at 37 weeks, 2 days.
