Can't take it anymore.... Ants and now ROACHES!!!
I've tried everything for the ants, but they keep coming back. And for the past 2 weeks we've been finding roaches!!! Only a handful of them, but we've NEVER had roaches before! Where did they come from? It's sooooo disgusting! We have only been living in this place since 3/1/10 so I don't know if they were from the previous tenants, or from the neighbor? Neighbors are really close.
What can we do about them? Please tell me we can do something?

we have an unbelievable amount of ants and were told that there is nothing we can do about it in our apartment because we are on the water but my stepdad is a contractor and swears by boric acid... he said forget about all that raid stuff because they will just keep coming back after 2 weeks. The roaches could def be from close neighbors though... are they attached to you?

Re: Can't take it anymore.... Ants and now ROACHES!!!
We live in Townhomes/houses (cluster homes) that are only attached by very small storage units. The sides of the units aren't touching. We have an Indian family that lives next door to us and they go away to India for 2-3 months at a time, and just got back, so maybe that's why they're coming over to our house? It's so nasty!!!

Re: Can't take it anymore.... Ants and now ROACHES!!!
My parents are from Philadelphia and grew up in row homes their entire lives. My uncle just had to sell his row home at a loss and picked up and moved to the suburbs because new families moved into the houses on either side of him that were attached and they were disgusting pigs too. He had a huge roach problem as well as other bugs because they were coming from the other houses. He said that the neighborhood was starting to get run down anyway so they moved outside of Philly.
Like I said, boric acid works for the ants and roaches, vacuum on a daily bases, and make sure your place isn't damp at all because they need water more than they need food. So make sure you don't have leaky faucets dishes soaking in the sink, etc. And caulk up any cracks where they might get in. Keep cereal and bread in the fridge.

Re: Can't take it anymore.... Ants and now ROACHES!!!
ants are a huge problem in FL...we use something with boric acid in it and it works wonders..it comes like a gel that you put on a tiny piece of cardboard, it attracts the ants and it kills them...but you have to be careful with kids and pets with it...
we also spray the house A LOT, like every few months...we use the same stuff exterminators use in NY - FL is less strict and sells the chemicals that i think are illegal to sell in NY without a license for exterminating...my DH's dad is an exterminator and my Dad was a chemist so they always tell us what to mix and use
but the boric acid should def help

Boric acid has always worked for me in the past. The exterminator who recommended it to me years ago said for ants to put it around the foundation outside
For the roach issue, could def be from close neighbors, but the boric acid should help. Problem is that if the person who is harboring the critters doesn't take care of them they'll keep coming back your way.. I'd call your landlord

I don't have experience with roaches, but for the ants...place DRYER sheets strategically in places you find ants the most. I don't know what is in them that repels them, but it was like a MIRACLE.

Re: Can't take it anymore.... Ants and now ROACHES!!!
i have roach experience.
it depends on the type. some are from outside...i think that is the american roach. german roaches are brought from somewhere else.
i would bet money that it is your neighbors that came from India.
I moved into an apt at 3 PM. Took guys who helped us move out to eat. Came home at 7 PM and turned lights on, roaches scattered everywhere. I died.
Moved out at 3 AM.
Apt office said that they were shocked. Indian people lived there before us, they were always traveling. Turns out we had german roaches, so did the empty apt below us.
In my new apt, I wanted all of our things treated. Terminator said hot roach areas are wet and hot. behind fridge under sinks behind computers(hot wires) behind tvs.
put roach bait in these areas. get rid of all boxes
good luck!
