Moms who have had 2+ vaginal deliveries

How was your 2nd vaginal delivery compared to your first, time-wise?

I *know* every delivery is different, blah blah blah Chat Icon Just looking to hear some of your experiences.

I was induced with DD #1 when I was 7 days overdue. When I was hooked up to the monitors, they told me I was starting to have contractions on my own, and my cervix was ready....so thankfully I didn't need Cervadil. Got Pitocin, and DD was born 7 hours after I checked into the hospital (1.5 hours of pushing).

HOPING Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon that delivery #2 goes just as fast (or faster), though again, I know it can be the complete opposite.

How were your deliveries?

Mine were pretty equal. I pushed for 2 + hours each time!!! However my 1st dd was 8lbs 4oz and dd#2 was 10 lbs so...if they were smaller who knows!!!

Pretty equal...both were pretty quick labor and easy deliveries, I was more sick this time during labor, but that was the only real difference. Also DD came out much faster and i didnt need as much of an episiotomy

Re: Moms who have had 2+ vaginal deliveries

I was induced with Eliza, but was already 3cm/80% when we started the induction. I had very irregular contractions for hours.

My OB checked me at 2 and I was at 5cm, 100%. She left and 20 minutes later I felt the urge to <ahem> "go".

I had zoomed from 5-10cm in 20 minutes. They had me do a practice push while they paged my OB.... and her head came out.

The head nurse delivered her- my OB ran in just as I was ready to deliver the placenta.Chat Icon

So, yes. My second delivery was MUCH faster than my first (where I pushed for almost 3 hours before she was vacuum extracted.

Re: Moms who have had 2+ vaginal deliveries

With #1 I was not at ALL in labor and was induced. From when I got to hospital until I gave birth was about 24 hours but I was only in labor about 12 hours and pushed for 2 hours.

I was also induced for #2 and everything was pretty much the same except that I pushed for less than 10 minutes.

Re: Moms who have had 2+ vaginal deliveries

I was induced with both babies. I was in labor for 8 hours with DD and pushed for 2 hours, and they finally needed the help of the vacuum to get her out. Not fun at all. With DS, I was in labor for 6 hours and pushed for about 10 minutes!! It was amazing.

Time wise it was faster.

DC #1 - From the time my water broke until delivery was over 16 hours.

DC #2 - From the time my water broke until delivery was 9 hours.

I pushed for 45 minutes for the first and less than 20 minutes for the second.

I had an episiomity (sp) the first time and a little tear the second time.

Overall it was a better labor, delivery, and an excellent recovery. Hope the same for you

Re: Moms who have had 2+ vaginal deliveries

ds#1....i was in the hospital for between 7-8 hours I believe...maybe a little less...was given pitocin....pushed for a little less than 30 minutes.

ds#2...was in the hospital for 4 1/2 hours...was given pitocin...pushed for less than 10 minutes (possibly less than 5, can't remember) not even full pushes....I most likely would have delivered at the 3 1/2 hr mark, but my bp get dropping because of the epi, so I wasnt allowed.

Both of my experiences were great....I NEVER had major contractions with ds#2...30 seconds long tops, and no pain...only reason I got the epi was cause I had it with ds #1, and was scared of what could have been...kinda wish now that I didn't get it. If my water hadn't broken, I never would have been at the hospitalChat Icon The nurse said for the next baby I have to be careful!

DC#1 pushed for over 3 hours and they had to lower my epi, so lots of pain and some yelling.

DC#2 pushed for 1/2 hour and they spikd my epi, because I was given pitocin and contractions started to come through epi......much more pleasurable experience. No yelling. Chat Icon

Re: Moms who have had 2+ vaginal deliveries

#1 - 10 days late, went into labor on my own but it was "prolonged labor", they broke my water, gave me pitocin, had an epidural

#2 - day before EDD, went into labor on my own, they broke my water, shorter labor, no epi/drugs

pushing was about the same with both.

Re: Moms who have had 2+ vaginal deliveries

I only have one, but this is what happened with my momChat Icon

With me, she was in labor for 12 hours, pushed for two and I was vaccuumed out (as she says "I thought you were cute, but you were all black and blue"Chat Icon ). Oh and I was two days late.

With my sister (22 months younger), she felt crappy all day, two weeks before her due date. She started noticing contractions and my dad took her to St. Charles, while he was filling out the paperwork, the nurse came down to get him b/c my mom was pushing. In 20 minutes, my sister was born, in the bag of waters!

Totally different. Although went into labor with both inmy 37th week - so both boys wre early.

#1 water broke after dinner (say 8ish) had strep b went straight to hospital. Barely dilated, pitocin, started all that maybe 10ish, had epidural and drugs for pain, 3 hours of pushing (epidural wouldn't wear off til third hour), baby came out at 8am next morning

#2 weird pains the entire day, felt light headed, went to dr and was over 3cm, but no steady contractions, contractions went more up adn down than side to side, by late afternoon - contractions contractions more and more and on a pattern 2-5 mins apart, some easy some painful, denied I was in labor - thought water would break, waited for DH to get home form city, by 7ish when Dh came home - in extreme pain and 2mins apart and still in denial, went to hospital was 5 cm (maybe by 830ish),water didn't break until I was 9cm, baby was out before midnight with les than 15 mins of pushing - more painful since I did most labor without drugs or epidural - got epidural eventually in hospital but had to wait to get fluid IV'ed into me so really only had it for the very end - maybe last hour and a half or so if that.

Each delivery was quicker than the one before it...

Overall though they were pretty much all the same for the most part...

Only carried to 35, 36, 37 weeks....

Was full effaced and dilated very quickly...

Re: Moms who have had 2+ vaginal deliveries

Still recovering so it's very fresh in my head... i was induced twice and they took the same amount of time (I wasnt very dilated with either one pre-induction) and progressed at almost the exact same rate (i got pitocin at 7am and 8am with #1 & #2 and had them at 7:21pm and 6:44pm). I pushed for an hour and a half with #1 and only 20 minutes with #2.

i had weird but very different epidural problems with each of them...

Re: Moms who have had 2+ vaginal deliveries

1st-pushed for 2 1/2 hours
2nd-pushed for 1/2 hour

1st one I had to get the epidural a few times and felt nothing when she came out (she was also taken out by forceps as the vacuum did not work)
2nd one I felt coming out even with an epidural (did not hurt at all but just felt him-very amazing feeling actually).

Re: Moms who have had 2+ vaginal deliveries

My second was very fast.

My water broke and he was delivered within 3 hours. I almost didn't make it to the hospital because I was waiting around. He was out in about 2 pushes.

With #2 I pushed for an hour. He was 8lbs even. With #2 I pushed for 15-20 minutes (I think 5 pushes total) and she was 8lbs13oz.

The second time was much easier. I knew the harder I pushed the quicker she would come out.

Re: Moms who have had 2+ vaginal deliveries

#2 was a breeze. Pushed for maybe 10 minutes, maybe 5 pushes and she was out. Felt great afterwards. Was home within 24 hours. To this day my friends make fun of me since I was at the park with my oldest like two weeks later in my regular clothes.

Hoping #3 is just as easy and I come out of this a size 2. LOL. I can dream.Chat Icon

Re: Moms who have had 2+ vaginal deliveries

I labored at home more with Gregory so when I went in I was 5 cm and moving close to 6 cm. Once we were in the hospital it moved much faster than it did with Lucas. We got there around 5:45am and he was born at 12:56pm. I pushed him out in less than 15 minutes (Lucas was an hour of pushing).
