Not to sound like an old hag but seriously WWYD??

Ok so my neighbors a few times during the summer have these HUGE backyard parties. They are karoke parties and there is one going on right now. I know its not that late (just a little after 10pm) but my daughter is sleeping and they party is going on basically underneath her window! Last year one party went on until 2am!! And its LOUD and they are screaming songs.
I live in a very quiet town. I don't care If it was during the day but I find this a little rude. Am I overrecting? What does everyone think?

not overreacting at all. i HATE neighbors like this. anything like this after 11:00p.m. gets a call to the police from me. i dont mind parties and even occasional late ones as long as they tone down the music. but when you dont care about the people who live around you i dont care if the police show up at your door. inconsiderate slobs!Chat Icon

if it didn't happen all the time it probably would not bother me, my son sleeps like a rock....it's a holiday weekend, a once in a while party and it's 10 pm on a Saturday but I'm pretty easy going with stuff liek that......MY only conver would be if it is really right under your window, I would be more concerend with safety not noise, could these people acces your home in any way, etc..? That would be a completely different story...

Once in a while is not something we concern ourselves about. It's usually in summer and we close the windows and turn on the AC.

But if it's more frequent, and you're at midnight and beyond with constant loud noise, I wouldn't feel bad about calling. I know many times when you're entertaining, you get wrapped up in the party and guests and feel insulated from the rest of the world. Nothing wrong with reminding them that they share their neighborhood and to respect that.

If it only happens a few times a year, it would not concern me too much.

One of my neighbors (when I was growing up) had quite a few parties over the summer. To get around the noise problem, they would invite all of their adjacent neighbors and therefore they were not bothering anyone. I always thought that was clever.

If it is once in a while I would not care. Unfortunately we live in an area where houses are "on top" of each other so I think people should be allowed to have an occasional loud party, let's face it when alcohol is involved we tend to be a little louder than normal. Neighbors have to work with each other.

If it's all the time then speak with them first, if they can't respect the noise issue then absolutely call the police.

Re: Not to sound like an old hag but seriously WWYD??

As a mother of a baby who is a light sleeper, it would REALLY bother me.

I would prob wait and see how late the party actually went, stewing the whole time. If DD slept through it, I guess no harm done-- but if it went really late, I'd call the police.

As someone who lives in an urban area now-- I CANNOT wait for the quiet of the burbs-- and if my neighbor had a very loud party, it would really p!ss me off.

I wouldn't mind just a few times during the summer. If it was every weekend I would be annoyed though.

Re: Not to sound like an old hag but seriously WWYD??

If someone is having a large party a few times a summer, then the neighbors should be notified. Not only for noise, but for parking. My parents had a big party for my sister's bday one year and we had a band. We invited the whole neighborhood. Well, it was during the summer, and they have no infants on the street. The band was only playing while it was still light out. Our next door neighbor forget we had invited him, and called the police because 1) he thought the party was behind him, not us and 2) he wanted to take a nap. Anyway, the only reason I know this is because when he figured it out, he came over and told us. The cops never came out to check it out, they just blew him off.

Yeah a party sounds way worse than an annoying car alarm. Bored much?

Excuse me but if you have 30 college kids screaming and yelling and playing music on a Wednesday night and their backyard is about 8 feet from your bedroom window and it's 1 am and you need to get up at 6 am for work I think you would be quite angry so no need for the sarcastic comment here

I think I would be sad I wasn't invited.

Sounds like a good time. Chat Icon
