8 mo. and still waking for bottle at night
How did you wean your DC off a middle of the night bottle? It is really just wearing DH and I down after 8 mo. although it is better than when he was waking every 2 hours
The thing is he sucks the entire bottle down. So I feel like he needs it right now. When should my cut off be that I just say enough?

I would love to know this too. My 9 months still wakes once a night for a bottle, i have tried and failed weaning her. CIO didn't work either.

Re: 8 mo. and still waking for bottle at night
Crissy...Lucas was the same way up until about 9 months old. He would wake at night...drain an entire bottle and go back down.
I started writing down how much he was drinking each day (for me I had to ask daycare not to empty the bottles that he didn't finish) and tried to give him more in the day...all that work and when I was about to implement it...he started sleeping through the night.
He would wake on occassion but by 12 months he was down all night.

Maybe mix the bottle with some water and gradually make it all water. Then he will eventually realize he isn't getting formula anymore and Sleep thru the feeding since it's only water. (peds have told friends this, it seemed to work)
good luck

Re: 8 mo. and still waking for bottle at night
i did before 6 months....
we would just stick the binky in, and he wasnt too bothered by it......
if he's sucking it down perhaps just start dropping it by an ounce each night.

Re: 8 mo. and still waking for bottle at night
Ok, this is what I did with Jack, and it worked. I do not believe he is waking bc he's hungry personally.
BUT, what you can do is every night put an ounce less of formula in the bottle. So, tonight if he normally gets a 6 ounce bottle - give him a 5 ounce bottle. Tomorrow night 4 ounces. Etc. This worked for Jack. Eventually once he was down to 2 ounces I knew he wasn't hungry since he was going to sleep once he finished the small bottle. I can't remember if he stopped waking on his own at that point or if I had to do a modified CIO. I do remember that it wasn't bad at all!

I don't believe he's waking for hunger anymore either...I think some of the suggestions mentioned above would be good to try, gl!

Re: 8 mo. and still waking for bottle at night
My DD took one until about 8 or 8 1/2 months. She has never been a big eater and I think she needed it. One day though, she rolled onto her stomach and began sleeping for 12 hours straight. That was the end of night bottles! She is almost 2 now and has been a fabulous sleeper since that day!

I cut DS off at 8 mos. I did a modified cio. It took 3 nights, none of which lasted more than 40 minutes.

The thing is he sucks down the whole bottle...that's why I thought he still wanted it because he is hungry.
I am trying to stuff him at dinner and than giving him a big bottle before bed and will see how that works.
Last night he slept through the night and does about once per week...I just need him to do it every night

Re: 8 mo. and still waking for bottle at night
What's his schedule like right now? The only time DD wakes up in the middle of the night is if she has a light dinner or somehow skips her last bottle of the night (she usually takes 4 bottles a day in addition to 3 meals). Then she wakes up starving at 3:30 am
If I make sure she gets all her food in right before she goes to bed (8:30 pm), then she doesn't wake until 6 am the next day.

Re: 8 mo. and still waking for bottle at night
at 6-7 months Sophia was waking a lot at night, and the only way to console her back to sleep was with a bottle . . .
I told the Ped and she said do NOT give her the bottle -- if she's eating well during the day and has a good dinner/last bottle then she should NOT be hungry or waking to eat in the middle of the night. she gave us the go with CIO to get her to sleep and since then she hasnt been waking during the middle of the night to eat. The only time shell wake now is because she's had a bad cough, and she's even learning to put herself back to sleep.

I've done it for 18 months. Only now does DS sleep through the night 98% of the time.
