Throwing the sippy cup - how did you teach them no?

We introduced the sippy cup a few weeks ago. DS is doing great with drinking out of it, but when in his highchair he loves to just toss it on the tile floor I've tried the firm "NO" when he starts to do it. I've tried not picking it back up (because I figured if I keep retrieving it, he'll think its a game). Neither of these things work and I know its not a huge deal, but it drives me nuts. Especially when I give him the sippy in his stroller and he throws it down on the floor in the mall

Any advice on how to teach him not to throw things? He's 9 months old, so I'm not even sure if he's old enough to understand the word NO yet...

You don't give it back to him. That's how you teach him not to do it. First time he throws it, give him the benefit of the doubt. Tell him no and return it. if he does it again, just take it away and tell him that's not nice and not to throw.

I do the same when the kids would play with their food. I'd simply remove it.

They won't starve (or die of thirst).. If they were hungry/thirsty, they will eat/drink.

we haven't gotten there yet - he just likes to drink his sippy so far ...

If taking it away doesn't help, maybe try one of those tether straps they sell?

the thing is, when I have done this, he doesnt even seem to care that I took it away. And when I tell him "no" he laughs at me like its funny Ughhh I can tell already he's going to be a little monster
