how do I teach DD to use a sippy cup?

I have the kind with a straw and one without. Either way she just chews on it. I tried sticking her paci in her mouth letting her suck and then switching. She still chews. Other ideas?

I need help with this too - Ryan thinks the sippy cup is funny, but doesn't get the function of it.

It really is all just trial and error. Just keep letting her have the cup in her high chair. She will get it soon enough

i'm a speech therapist... i would try this first. you know how with regular straws you can "catch" some of the drink in the straw, and then take the straw out of the drink and drink from the bottom? do this and put the bottom of the straw in her mouth and let the drink go into her mouth. this kind of gets her used to the concept that there is a drink that comes out of a straw. eventually, she'll start to realize she can close her lips around the straw. THEN, you can try the sippy cup straw and she should do the same thing... hope this helps!

I would just put water in it and maybe her see you drink from it and just let her play with it. She will want to put the straw in her mouth and she will probably try and suck so when she does she will get the water. I started both kids at 6 months. DS took a lot longer to get the hang of it (I think around 10 months) and DD took to it right away.
