WWYD - Baptism party conflict
UGH, so we booked our venue and took the smaller of 2 rooms I looked at b/c the guarantee was 35, not 50. I invited 63 guests, but it's on Mother's Day so I assumed I'd have a handful of regrets. From the start, I discussed moving to the larger room with the banquet manager. She said it would be open if we chose to switch the room.
So, after Easter I got my head count of 60 not my plan! I called the restaurant Monday to move rooms. She said it was fine and recommended it b/c we would be tight in the initial room.
Then she calls me Tuesday and finding out the restaurant booked the larger room for their brunch and I can't have it. She was pretty embarassed.
I spoke to her last night about it and asked her to look into another location for us (they own several restaurants) or could we do a cocktail hr in the initial room (which is downstairs) and then do dinner upstairs.
She called back today to say she argued with management but they have agreed to a cocktail hr in one room and dinner in the other.
But the restaurant is awkward in that the cocktail room would be in a basement essentially, and then my guests would have to go upstairs and back out to the parking lot to go to the "dinner" room. Is this stupid??
Since they screwed up, I have the option to cancel and get my $500 deposit back - but then were would I go?? As a guest. would you think we did things half azzed??

Re: WWYD - Baptism party conflict
I don't think it is a big deal. My cocktail hour for my wedding was outside. So people walked into the lobby were escorted through the side door to go out to the back. Then they went back inside and downstairs to the banquet room (I had my reception at the Watermill). No one seemed to complain and we had an elevator. I will that if there was no elevator I would have had a lot of annoyed older woman. That would be the only thing I would consider really.
Something else is maybe start looking for a place and but don't cancel the current one and if you find something that works better you can cancel the original.

I think it would depend on your guests. I will have 4 people that are handicapped so I know it wouldn't work for them.
I would call around a few places just to see what else is available in case something else works better.
