Shooting Range - buying a home right near one

Saw an amazing house today, but of course it is across the street from Suffolk Country Skeet & Trap, a shooting range.

Anyone have any insight?

I'm reading some stuff on it, and I think it'd be wise not to make an offer, but figured I'd get some LIF opinions.Chat Icon

Agree w/ this. Even if I didn't have kids, it would still be a no-go.

We live fairly close to the Brookhaven Riffle range. We can hear it but the sound is in the distance. We enjoy going to the range & like having it so close. I've read articles and there have been bits on news12 about the range in yaphank and the disputes between the operators of the facility & the neighbors.

Before I would consider it, I'd stalk the house early Sunday morning & other times of the week. Sit in your car with the windows down & listen.

I wouldn't because of the potential for noise, but also because of the traffic, as you mentioned it is right across the street.

It would be a safety concern for me, but it all depends on your comfort level. This is coming from the girl who lives on a major road.

NO

I believe lead can be released into the air at a shooting range. So I would pass for many many reasons.

Re: Shooting Range - buying a home right near one

i live by the Yaphank range and my only complaint is i feel they should start later on the weekends, i work hard all week and like to be lazy in bed on sundays and they start at 9:30, so then its annoying but the rest of the time i barely notice it

i think i really depends on just how close the house is to the range......

I would go different times of the day sit in front of house with your window open or park down the street and go for a walk around neighborhood if nice day. this way you will see if the noise is really that bad
