Who do you have homeowners insurance with?
We called Geico which uses a different company for their homeowner underwriting. They wanted to give us a replacement value of $135,000. DH said it sounds really low and she said that's what they can rebuild the house for. It just doesn't sound right to us. Any other recommendations?

State Farm has great rates especially with multiple policies, like mulit-car, homeowners, flood, etc.

This is the office we use too, but we deal with Catherine Stillwagon.
Our replacement value is in that ballpark too. They said the bulk of housing prices are the land and not the actual value of the home.

Allstate -- which also uses another company like Geico. But, you call Allstate to get the policy and they give you a discount if you have them for car insurance as well.
I'm annoyed with Geico -- I have had them since I first got my license. I have never had any accidents, no tickets, nothing. When I turned 25 I expected a decrease - nothing. Then, I traded in my car this summer and drove my brother's car for a few months until I was ready to buy something new of my own. So, I cancelled my policy for a few months - I had no car for it. When I went back a few months later after I got my new car the rates were much higher. No reason, they even said it had nothing to do with me stopping being a customer and then starting again -- just that rates have gone up.
So, I got peeved - I've been such a good policyholder with NO issues. That's why we switched to Allstate! When we had to get the home owners insurance we went ahead and did the car as well. We saved over 600 dollars a year for the car insurance - same coverage. And then we saved 150 dollars for having more than one thing -- car and home.

I thought it was just me! I had geico for years... never had a problem with them. Then my policy was up for renewal and they wanted to jack up my rates by like $100 a month (I'm 29 - no accidents / no tickets). I told them I was gonna switch cause I knew someone else would give me cheaper rates... and they basically told me good luck with that. Allstate was $750 cheaper (for 6 months) then geico for all the same coverages!! Now I pay like almost nothing for insurance

We use Allstate. Our cars are insured with them and my ering. We get discounts the more we insure with them.

when shopping around i believe travelers is offering us the most for the rate. i think that is who we will go with.

we have utica first. I don't understand how they come up with a re-build value. ours is over 50k more then we bought the house for (just 2 weeks ago), and that price is just to re-build the house not buy land and a house  when I asked they said its x $'s per sqft to replace a house but I don't remember the #
