Re: Advice for a smooth move?

How exciting!!! Congrats!!!!

When we moved from our apartment in Long Beach, to our house in Western Suffolk, DH packed both his pickup truck and work dump truck with all of our stuff.

He also arranged a caravan of a few friends with trucks and large SUVs to drive our stuff so we didn't need to make a bunch of trips back and forth.

This is one of the big advantages of him having his own construction business.

I also just threw a ton of crap out so I wouldn't have to deal with it anymore.

I left ahead of the caravan and stopped off and got a bunch of deli food and then set it up so everyone could eat when they were done unloading.

Re: Advice for a smooth move?

make a list of what you put in each box and label each box (A, B, etc) correspond each number/letter to your list.

also write on the box what room you want it put in the new house for the movers. and add that to your list too.

throw away junk! 1800junk was very helpful and a worthwhile expense...

pack in advance.

take your time to unpack. have people help you unpack who are ORGANIZED and PATIENT.

and try to stay calm, and organized and patient.

be nice to your movers and offer them water to drink and tip nicely. we gave 20%.

Re: Advice for a smooth move?

Thanks for the tips everyone!! That's a great idea about remembering to give the movers drinks/food.... I think we'll stock up on soda cans and order a pizza- I like that idea.

I think the biggest thing I have to do now is finish going through the rest of my junk and find a way to part with it!! We are actually having the movers pack for us as well!! Which means sorting through our junk BEFORE moving is very necessary, otherwise it will all be sitting in our new house cluttering up the place!
