Anyone's toddler afraid to pass a bowel movement? Sorry TMI
We have had issues with DD and her constipation. She turned 2 years in November and is peepee trained - she was doing well for a short time w/passing #2 on the potty - but now she is afraid .
She has had anal fissures which I know have terrified her - she now takes daily laxatives (exlax) and she manages to hold it in if the dosage is not enough for her to go right away.
Basically she holds it in all the time if she can and has become dependent on laxatives for her to go. I've been to peditric gastro doctors and they told me that holding it in as become a behavior for her and she needs to break it and the laxatives are the only option to ease her along to pass her stool.
Basically we are trying to break this pattern so she learns that it doesn't have to hurt to pass it.
I was just wondering if your child ever went through something like this. How long did it take before they started passing their stool on their own regularly?

My daughter is just coming out of this- she was pooping on the potty and then all of a sudden she became anxious- she had some stools that were kind of dry and I think they must have hurt her. Over the weekend she FINALLY started pooping on the potty again. We started making sure she had lots of water during the day and only let her snack on fruit and veggie.
I think it had been going on for a couple of weeks.

I feel your pain. This has been going on in my house since JULY! I think DD became really constipated and had to go and it really hurt her so she held it in. Now she's been in Miralax everyday and without it, she doesn't always go. I wish she didn't have to be on it, but I don't have a choice at this point. She is 3 and almost fully potty trained for peeing, but refuses to poop on the potty and the dr said don't push it.

my bf was having this same trouble with her dd, she went 8 days without pooping 
she began giving her miralax and it helped a lot

How much Miralax are you giving? My DD is 2 years old.
I might want to try and see. Does it give your child bad cramps?

my friend said there were no side effects, you just mix it with any drink, not sure of the dosage though

If she is REALLY constipated the dr said give her 3/4 of a capful once a day - maybe a little more after that. I now give me DD half a capful everyday. I do think it sometimes causes cramps because DD will sometimes tell me her tummy hurts but not all the time and it passes.

I wonder why they did not give your DD miralax. My one year old was recently put on this for similar issues and severe constipation. I have nothing but great things to say about it and they say it's safe to stay on long term if needed. Can I ask why they are giving her exlax over something like Miralax?

My DD 22 lbs and takes a half a capful everyday. It works amazingly. Softens the poop and therefore since it's not hard it's easy to pass. No cramps, no urgency. It is a miracle drug.

Miralax is a bit more gentile and its a stool softner not a stimulant laxative like ExLax . My daughter still holding her stool inside even when giving her EXLAX if I don't give her enough chocolate squares. I will give her 2.5 squares and this kid fights it - and resists to go - its been frustrating!! She has even had 2 prolapses of her rectum (ive posted about this before) - so we have been through alot and she continues to be very resistant to pass her stool. The constipation in the beginning of her life really terrified her as to this type of behavior.
Im going to try Miralax as I understand from you all that it could be more gentile on her belly and im hoping she realizes the need for her to go potty naturally. Im going to follow up with her doctor again. We have been going through this for the last 6 months with daily laxatives....

My niece does this too. My sister was told to give Miralax everyday for 2 weeks to reset her system and show her it doesn't have to hurt. She gets it in her juice. It will work for a while and then she stops going again so they just do another 2 weeks. Just remember to keep dd well hydrated and eating veggies too.

adult one , there is no children's miralaz that I am aware of

OMG. I did not realize all of this, poor baby and poor mommy. I DO understand very much. My poor baby has had such similar issues.
I can understand the exlax reasoning now. I would still question them if Miralx, maybe full dose, might work. If the stool is soft enough, she will not be able to hold it back. At least this would not cause cramping.
Miralax causes no cramps. I think the cramping alone might make your DD want to hold it back or just have more aversion to the issue of pooping. I am going to FM you.
