Paint colors

I normally have no issues with picking out color but this time I am finding it hard because its not something i would normally pick.

Our living room/dinning room (one huge L shaped room) is being re-rocked next week and ready to paint by next weekend and I have to pick a color out. Our rooms seem dark and so we want to go light (i love darker colors so its hard for me to pick a light color out) - we will accent with darker furniture and drapes with splashes of darker accents. Carpet will be ripped up and wood floors refinished.

Dining room during the day before we had the wood paneling torn down to reveal bright orange walls:

Here are the two swatches I picked with the colors i was thinking. I am waiting for the second coat of the samples to dry on the walls. But i can say they seem a bit lighter to me.

Re: Paint colors

I just painted my entire house yesterday and I think you will be surprised how much brighter any of those colors will make the room....we had paneling like yours and then a dark color underneath and I thought wow my house is dark....after painting it a tan color yesterday I now have a bright house.....dont be afraid to go darker.

Re: Paint colors

behr not going BM this time. I wasn't pleased with my BM bedroom and i need a lot of paint which is way to costly to do with BM.

Re: Paint colors

I would go for the Prelude or the Celtic Gray. I really like the Prelude. It still won't make your room that dark at all. With dark furniture I think it will look really nice. GL!Chat Icon

I jsut used the Behr paint was was very happy how it covered. I used their primer for new drywall (1 coat) and then painted my tan color (2 coats) and expected to use tons of paint since it was new drywall and was pleasantly surprised how it covered and little paint I used.

misty surf seems to have much more purple tone. I think I like the other one better.

Re: Paint colors

funny thing is one is a green cast and the other is a blue cast but the blue cast looks purple here.

I think i am just going to have to get more samples made up in the darker shade of prelude and then put all three up when i have the drywal up since it will be white and i can really see how bright everything is.

The only sucky thing is the floors will not be done for another month so i really don't know how that will affect everything.

Re: Paint colors

Misty Surf or Prelude but I feel Prelude might be too dark.
