Nowhere near being a skinny one over here BUT that is JUST as rude as telling somebody "Uhm, have you gained some weight? You really shouldn't be eating that!"

yes and no.

I'm more bothered by all the skinny people bashing I see.

How some people think it's ok to say someone is too thin and they need a sandwich, but I would never tell anyone to step away from that sandwich, you know?

Re: If you are a skinny person does it bother you

Having skinny friends, I would never say "you need to eat a burger" like I have seen people say on the Celebrity board. People struggle with weight. Either it's too much or too little. Sometimes skinny people cannot gain weight just like some fat people cannot lose weight.

It's not black and white. Some people have been skinny their entire life. You can't change your genes.

I am just so tired of people telling me that I'm so skinny, I've lost so much weight, that I need to eat moreChat Icon Chat Icon I would never go up to someone and say oh you've gained so much weight, are you eating too much? .....
and I am so tired of people assuming you are "not eating" just bc you are thin. Why is it so hard to understand that some people are naturally skinny and it's rude to tell someone they have gotten too skinny (unless you are their mom or sister, or a very close family member or THE best friend).....

Almost as much as it bothers me when skinny people complain about such comments. Chat Icon (just kiddin')

I think most people mean to be complimentary when saying those things. I've been skinny a couple times in my life Chat Icon and I never took those types of comments as being mean spirited. Sometimes it's a natural curiosity. Folks want to know how you maintain being thin; do you have to work at it or is it natural.

Same thing goes for my being tall. I've gotten comments or questions almost daily my entire life. It can get frustrating sometimes (usually when I'm PMSing Chat Icon ), but I know the majority of people don't mean to be rude about it. Again, it's a natural curiosity.

Being skinny/thin and/or tall are seen as being positives in our society, so people don't have to be so PC about it.

comments like : you are so skinny how do you do it.... you look good..... don't bother me at all (naturally)

It's comments like : you are TOO skinny... Are you eating ok? you NEED to eat more ..... they bother me and I do think it's very rude. It's no different than if I went up to a heavy set person and told them they have gained too much weight and need to cut down on food. KWIM?

When someone is very skinny I don't think that people think anything of saying something to them. Most think that it has to be a choice. As a tall and thin person that was VERY skinny for a while due to an uncontrollable sickness. I can say that it can be annoying.
People would always make comments to me that I should eat more. It got to the point that I would tell them "I wish I could" to which I usually got an oh sorry I didn't mean anything by it.

Some people just don't think.

Yes, It bothers me. I can't help that I'm skinny and I really do eat a lot, but everyone has their comments, which piss me off. I really don't care about the natural comments, like how do you stay so skinny, but when I'm eating with one of my good friends, she always makes comments on how I make her sick, that I can eat anything and never gain a pound and one of my co-workers always mentions my weight, she is also thin, so she should have nothing to say, but she knows I get very embarrassed, so she does it anyway. It's annoying, because I really do try to gain weight and my sister always tells me once I have children it will catch up to me. It's very annoying, but I try my best to ignore the comments.

I am not a skinny person - I have to WORK to be on the 'thinnER' side - not even 'thin' ........we all do in my family.

So, when my Dad (who is the most neurotic about his weight out of all of us) gets a comment like that his response is
"You can never be too rich or too thin" Chat Icon

Re: If you are a skinny person does it bother you

When I was younger- like late teens/early 20's I was quite underweight.
I didn't diet or exercise, I worked hard to gain weight (even saw a nutrionist, drank weight gain shakes, etc) but I just couldn't keep weight on.

I was very self conscious about it, and always wanted some more curves etc.

I worked in a dept store and the comments from customers were APPALLING.
Women would say things like "You are so skinny do you eat?" In such a nasty tone. When I said yes, I eat a lot actually, they woudl say "Well then you must throw up or take pills!" Chat Icon

I once had a woman ask me "What SIZE is that Skirt??" In such a hateful tone that I felt like I was a child murderer

It was awful.

I often wondered if I had been overweight would they ask me the size of my skirt or say- wow you are SOOO Fat what do you eat?

But when it comes to skinny people a lot of people feel it's a free for all and it's ok....

Re: If you are a skinny person does it bother you

Fact is - People are totally jealous of thin (skinny) people - regardless of HOW you get there - working out, naturally thin, unable to gain weight, deathly sick (god forbid) eating disorder etc etc - they don't care b/c part of them is hating THEMSELVES for not being able to do whatever it is that said 'skinny' person is doing .........

Doesn't make the comments right - but it IS part of the reason why you'll never hear someone comment if you're overweight .......

Re: If you are a skinny person does it bother you

yes it bothers me...my mom does it a lot Chat Icon she has been telling me i am too skinny for 25 years Chat Icon you would think by now she'd realize that's just the way i am!

i hated how at work when i would watch what i was eating people would make comments or roll their eyes - i'm sorry, but people don't just watch what they eat b/c they are dieting - is there something wrong with trying to keep your heart healthy? and your body healthy? same thing when i would talk about working out - i'm not necesarily working out to "be skinny" i am working out because it's GOOD for you Chat Icon

i do think that some (NOT ALL but SOME) people are jealous and that is why they trash talk....either that or they are just plain rude...

like someone said, i would never tell someone to "put down the sandwhich" Chat Icon

Re: If you are a skinny person does it bother you

Not at all... I'm somewhat natually thin, but I do have to work hard at it too b/c I'm thin if I I slack off I'll have thin arms and boobs, but I'll get a gut. When I do put on a few pounds it never goes to the right area... butt or boobs.

I got small boobs and a flat butt. I work out and eat healthy so when someone says that to me I just laugh it off.

I'm thin and always have been. I get the odd comment, most are joking but I have had one or two down-right insulting. From what they are saying it sounds like you have lost a lot of weight lately. If you are thin and have lost even more weight, then I think their concern is coming from the possiblity that you may be ill in some way.

I actually used to go to the gym to try to build up some muscle, bulk up and put on weight.
I avoided excessive cardio and tried to do weight training.
You should have heard the comments I got about THAT!

I have had the same problems ALL my life. Always comments from family, friends and strangers. I have never been able to hold on to extra weight.

I have always been tall and lean. I was lucky to get curves when I was pregnant. I actually had an arse!

When a skinny person loses weight, it only takes 2-3 lbs for someone to think you have an eating disorder. Its not fair but I don't care. I tell them I have worms Chat Icon

I agree.

I think people just think because you're skinny, they can make any comment about your weight they want, since you aren't "fat", but that's just bull! Any comments can be annoying/hurtful.

Re: If you are a skinny person does it bother you

My BM has had this problem all her life...she is a rail, and she's actually got some digestive issues so she can't eat things that other people can...I know people have harassed her about it, and I've gotten angry when people ask me if she's anorexic...mostly because she's got an enormous chest and if you're anorexic, that's the first thing to go....but people don't think about that.

Re: If you are a skinny person does it bother you

When I was very skinny (like 10 years ago)... if someone said "you're so thin, how do you do it?, etc." I took it as a compliment and it made me smile & feel good... but when someone started with the whole "what did you eat for breakfast, why are you so skinny?, you need to eat up", it made me very uncomfortable because they acted like it was a bad thing that I was thin... that's when it annoyed me.

Re: If you are a skinny person does it bother you

I honestly have a big problem with anyone making a comment about someones weight, whether skinny or not. A couple of years back I was very skinny, looking back at pictures...its scary. I always got comments, "you don't eat enough" Truth is I'm not with you 24/7 and until you see me not eat for a long period of time. Don't Comment. The minute I started to put some weight on, I got comments the other way around..."You shouldn't wear that. Its not flattering" etc etc. idk JMO

I think it's incredibly rude and annoying. I had a (male) family member say to me over the holidays "You look hungry"

oh, thanks. a**hole.
