Would you take Prometrium?
Would you take it even though you're not sure you have a LP deficiency? One month LP is 11 days, next month it's 9 days, not sure what the 3rd month will bring yet? Doctor doesn't think the Lupron would be affecting me anymore and said let's see how the next couple of months go first? She's not really sure I should take it right now, but gave me the prescription if I want to? I've never taken it before.
ETA: She told me she was "taught" to not believe in Luteal Phase deficiencies, but said she started believing in them.
Thanks!

Re: Would you take Prometrium?
Sorry I'm not familiar with that drug, but why not try vitamin B6 first? Or have you? A lot of women seem to have success with that. Did you dr say anything about B6?

Re: Would you take Prometrium?
I would have her test your progesterone at 7DPO and see if it's low. If it is, then she can start you on the Prometrium. It doesnt have fun side effects so I would not just take it automatically.

Re: Would you take Prometrium?
I have been taking 200mg of B6. It doesn't seem to be doing anything? I'm not sure if the length that you're suppose to be taking it or not matters? I'm pretty sure I've been taking it for well over a month to 2 months. Can't remember?
She did say to see how these next couple of months go and then if nothing then we can start with testing.
I guess I'll just wait and see. Thanks!

Re: Would you take Prometrium?
All the Prometrium does is bring on AF. I've taken it multiple times although not for a LP def. I wouldn't really hesitate to take it though. My girlfriend had a LP def after having her first DC and I believe they did the same thing with her. She ended up getting preggers 2-3 months after being diagnosed. Good luck.

Just as an FYI - I had NO side effects from Prometrium at all. Of course with every drug you run the risk of having a side effect but for the Prometrium I didn't notice feeling any different at all. I've also taken Provera which serves the same purpose as Prometrium again, with no side effects. It's one pill a day for about 10 days. I get AF starting the day of the last pill. As I said before, I wouldn't really be hesitant to take either. I've done it so many times with no adverse effects.

Are you sure we're talking about the same drug here? I'm pretty sure it's not just me because I've seen plenty of posts about Prometrium making people extremely dizzy and having other unpleasant side effects. I actually got so dizzy 2 weeks ago, that I was leaving a meeting and could barely walk.
For me, they prescribed it not to bring ON AF but to prevent me from getting AF too soon (i.e. lengthen the LP). I've had 3 MC that appear to be bc AF comes on anyway...

As for its purpose, from what I know of my use of it, it actually does the opposite of what you stated... it doesnt bring ON AF, it actually prevents you from getting it....
It can make you dizzy BUT if you take it before bed it usually helps to control that. You are incorrect though in that is prevents AF........quite the opposite. Prometrium is basically progesterone and is meant to bring on AF. I've taken it multiple times as I have irregular cycles. The RE prescribes it so I can start my menstrual cycle.
EDIT - Once you are PREGNANT progsterone such as Provera or Prometrium will help to sustain the pregnancy until the placenta can take over around week 14. Maybe that is what you are thinking of. Basically it serves 2 purposes. Again, I've taken it to bring on AF but I also was on progesterone suppositories in weeks 5-12 of my pregnancy to help sustain my pregnancy because my progesterone levels were too low. Once the placenta took over I stopped the progesterone.

Also: What is Prometrium (progesterone)?
Progesterone is a female hormone important for the regulation of ovulation and menstruation.
Progesterone is used to cause menstrual periods in women who have not yet reached menopause but are not having periods due to a lack of progesterone in the body. Progesterone is also used to prevent overgrowth in the lining of the uterus in postmenopausal women who are receiving estrogen hormone replacement therapy.
Progesterone may also be used for other purposes not listed in this medication guide.

I was just looking it up too because I was (I edited my post while you were writing). I guess they also prescribe it to delay AF temporarily and then when you stop taking it is when it brings it on. I didn't realize its other use because it's been prescribed to me to hold off AF bc I have recurrent MCs that seem to be due to low progesterone. I seem to shed my lining before the PG can take hold.
As for the dizziness, I can say even at night it made me dizzy but they switched me from oral and suppositories and that helps tremendously!
In any case, I'd still advise having your levels checked at 7DPO before going on it. Why take a drug that might have side effects until you know that it is necessary?

Yes you are correct as well. It brings on AF but when you have high levels of progesterone in your body it inhibits AF which is why I assume they would prescribe it for those with short LP. Taking it would keep your uterine lining thick and prevent it from shedding - aka: AF. Once you stop the progesterone AF would come on. That's why it's also important to have high levels of progesterone when pregnant too otherwise your body cannot sustain the pregnancy. That's why I supplemented those early weeks of pregnancy and why you probably took it too.......to avoid M/C.
I think we were almost on the same page!
