House behind a house
Scott showed me a house on MLS that is "hidden" behind another house.
would you ever buy a house that is tucked away behind another house?
the house on the street's backyard is your front yard... mind you there may be a fence around their yard for privacy...

Re: House behind a house
My Aunt's house is like this-but she is the house in front of the other house. The neighbors driveway goes along side her house. In my Aunt's situation, it would not bother me because her backyard is very large and there is ALOT of trees/shrubbery for privacy.

Re: House behind a house
no. we looked at a house that shared a driveway with 3 other houses. It felt like a compound, not a house.

It would depend on how large the lots were.

No way. Just recently looked at a house like this and we feel we want to see the street, not someone else's house.

Re: House behind a house
It was a weird layout. The front house is on Pea pond rd in N Bellmore and the other house is behind it facing pea pond.

Re: House behind a house
there are a bunch of these types in long beach...they are on the 'walk streets' right before heading into the west end. i'm not crazy about the idea....the less houses around me the better!

Re: House behind a house
My aunts house is like that.. she has a long driveway that is on the side of my father's property. She looks out her front door and sees his house and backyard. She has a great house and beautiful property but I wouldn't want to buy that house.

Re: House behind a house
i know what you ae talking about; we saw one on MLS like that too
it is not that they are close together or have a shared driveway which is very common in beach towns like belle harbor or long beach
this is where the house that you buy is actually ON the other people's property, there is a term for it but i cant think of it right now
Is this what you mean??

Re: House behind a house
It's weird but it would have to have privacy.
In Bethpage there are a lot of homes like that.
We live down a long driveway and two other houses share the driveway but we all have our own smaller driveways.
We have a lot of privacy.

No, anytime I saw a house like that on MLS, I wouldn't go look at it.

Re: House behind a house
This is called a flagged property. It's very common for property owners with an oversized lots to subdivide and erect another residence on in the back. Technically, once divided, it is considered 2 separate lots so don't feel like you're on their property. Some people prefer to be able to see the house from the street. Others like it for the privacy.

Re: House behind a house
They're pretty common where I live. Each property is 1 acre plus.
Don't know if I would buy one or not. It would depend on the location, house, lot size & layout, privacy, etc.. I wouldn't write one off though just for the very reason that it's behind another home.

see the thing is not that it is just behind another home, but you do not own the property, just the actual house
this is what my agent told me

I've never seen anything like that. Do you guys have any specific MLS listings that I can look at that has that kind of set up?
If that's the case, then no, I wouldn't view anything like that. If I don't own the property, then I'm not interested in the house that's sitting on it.

Re: House behind a house
Alot of times this is called a Flag Lot. Picture a flag on a pole. The driveway, maybe like 10-20' wide is the the pole, and the house is behind the other on the flag part. I have never heard of buying the house only and not owning the property..

Re: House behind a house
ok, i may be wrong about not owning the property, but i looked back at the listings i saved on the website and my agent said this
"you have what is called an easement - a right to pass on the other person's property to access yours "
the MLS was 2206244

Re: House behind a house
They just built one of these across from the Walt whitman mall... the lot looks pretty small to begin with. I would only do it if it was a family member.

Re: House behind a house
I am very picky about the town I want, so if it was a nice house in the neighborhood I wanted, and I could afford it, yes I would.
