Not the phone call you want at work. (update again)

DH called me at work to tell me that there was an accident at camp. Maddie was trapped in a deflated bounch house for awhile today - we all know how hot it was today. She's ok, just dehyrdated. The ambulance checked her out & then the pediatrician.

I caught the next train home & spoke to the director on my way. They took all the kids out of the bouncey thing. Did their standard count and started helping the kids put their shoes on. Maddie & another little girl snuck back into the bouncehouse while they were in the middle of deflating it. The girl made it out. Maddie couldn't find the entrance & was trapped inside. When all the kids were shoe'd they were walking away & noticed she was missing. The girl said she was in the bouncehouse but the counselors misundestood & said "No we took her out." & the girl didn't say she went back in.They searched the camp, asked the kids where she went, then followed the procedures - checking the pools, reinflating the bouncy things, checking people leaving the camp, etc.

So my little girl was trapped in the deflated plastic bouncehouse thing. The camp did their search & the reinflated the houses. According to Maddie a beautiful girl wearing a nice green shirt (she notices fashion first) scooped her up & ran her to the nurse's office where they applied icepacks & gave her water & called the ambulance. They questioned whether she had passed out aka "fallen asleep" to a 6 year old. She said it was very hot & she closed her eyes & was wishing for magic.

She's fine. She told me she was scared that she wasn't going to see us again & was worried she was going to have to stay overnight stuck there (she probably wouldn't have lasted very long with the heat & the plastic).

The director told me the bouncehouse company was fired on the spot. They are supposed to do a final check before deflating & it's inexcusable that a child was trapped. I'm so grateful that they have their procedures because this could have been a different day for us. I told the director that I wanted her on a bouncy tomorrow or as soon as they have a company. She said they'll have a moon bounce blown up & she'll be put in it & they'll make sure she's ok (I don't want her to become afraid of them).

We talked to her about calling for help - no matter what if she needs it or is scared. She seemed to be worried more that she was going to get in trouble - the police came along with the ambulance, etc.

Anyway, it's been a hell of a day but at the end of it, she's ok & that's all that matters. I think I'm going to take up drinking. I'm not sure how I'm going to survive parenthood.

She's ok today. Still a bit dehydrated & she threw up last night (which they said was to be expected). I called to let the staff know they need to keep her hydrated again.

The "beautiful girl" who found Maddie is actually the assistant director at the camp. Maddie gave her a huge hug today & the assistant director will be going in the bounce houses they are setting up to make sure she's ok. I'm sure she'll be fine. They said they'll call me to let me know how she did. Sounds like the camp staff was tramautized too, which is a good thing I suppose. I'm sure they'll be doing their counts more frequently.

OMG, that sounds so freaking Scary, that poor little baby and poor Mommy. Im so glad she is ok!

Thank g-d they had the procedure in place to blow it back up! I don't even want to think about the possibility of any other outcome than what happened today. Please give Maddie extra hugs tonight

Barb- my God I am sick thinking how this story *could have* turned out. Thank God she had angels watching over her today.

awww.... how scary for her!! and for you too! i must say though, i think the camp handled the situation very well. so happy to hear she is OK!

OMG! How scary im so glad she is ok. I can just imagine how scared she was. I couldnt imagine how i would react if i got this news.

Wow. What a scary story. I am so glad Maddie is okay. Everyone must still be pretty shaken, though.
