Massage- TTC
I just had a question about getting a massage towards the end of my cycle? This is my 4th month TTC &t I am at 8DPO. Tomorrow i am supposed to get a deep tissue massage with all of my girlfriends.
I have read so many things online that getting a massage during your 1rst trimester is not allowed and that it can increase the chance of miscarriages. So what happens if I am pregnant and get my BFP?? Is it OK to get a massage tomorrow - I will be at 9DPO....so it's to early to know if I will be pregnant. I would only be 3 wks & 3 days , if i was pregnant- so is that to early anyways to be worried about massages.
Should I be cautious and let the massage therapist know. Plus I haven't told my friends that I am TTC.
Sorry for the rant. I think as every month goes by...and i get BFN's I get worried about everything I do and that it could hurt my chances. I just want my BFP already

I would not get a "deep tissue". But you are not "officially" PG and you don't M/S yet either.
Make sure to tell the person not to do reflexology or deep work on feet and ankles.
No belly massage either.

My aunt is a massage therapist and she also said that shoulder massages are a no-no when TTC and PG because of something involving energy moving downward and it can cause contractions of the uterus.

You can give shoulder massages to PG women. I am certified in pregnancy massage.
There is a "point" on the shoulder area (it's called GB21 is someone wants to know!!!) just like one of the points on the ankles that everybody is afraid about. You just don't do deep work. You can still massage the shoulders though.
Those points come from threories of Traditional Chinese Medicine. They are called "descending" points. Baby is concidered "phlegm" in Chinese Medicine and in theory if you press those points you will release the channel. BUT a huge concept missed by people is that you need "intent" while pressing those points. You apply pressure to a particular point. Just like acupuncture. As long as you don't over rub the point and just do a light overall massage, there is really no reasons to worry.
Should someone get a shoulder rub at the nail place? NO!!! They are not massage therapists and they are NOT certified in pregnancy massages.

Good to know. But for my money, I won't be having anyone rub my shoulders during the 2WW or when PG unless they're like you - a certified pregnancy massage therapist and know exactly where that point is and how to avoid it. At a lot of these massage places and spas, who knows if they actually know what they're doing for PG women and I don't want to take a chance.

Personally, I wouldn't. With my DD, I was going away with friends to a spa right after getting my BFP. I changed my appointment to a manicure instead of a massage.

Most places do not do massage in the 1st trimester. When I say massage, it is "assumed" it's after the 1st trimester. Look on the PG board. This topic is brought up very often.

Well- The girls SPA day was last weekend.....during my 2ww. After I read a few articles I had just told the massage therapist to do a swedish massage instead of deep tissue. I would have canceled completely- to a facial or something else but the salon was already booked....and i didn't want my friends to know i was TTC.
So If you still can cancel or change it- i would.
WHO knew all these things we no no's while trying to TTC.
