I guess if I had a pick up I could transport the mulch and save some money.

When I'm there, I'd say that only 25% of the people have pickup trucks. Even those with "trucks" have SUVs with leather interiors. Many people use garbage cans (the shorter ones since you have to lift them into the car.) You fill them on the ground, so you don't have to be neat, then put them in the trunk. Other people use random types of bags.
It takes longer, but if you don't need yards and yards of it, apparently it's good enough for a lot of people. Chat Icon

Re: Mulch

I fit 10 bags in my VW Passat the first time I went. Ten bags is the maximum for one visit. We have a pass-through trunk so I just laid down the back seat, put a blanket down, and we piled them in. That's the other thing - they won't lift the bags into the car for you. They're not that heavy.

The top of the bags are not that secure so when you take them out, don't depend on the top to stay closed. They fill the bag and then use a machine to melt the plastic at the top to seal it. The seal is not that sturdy.

You should call them and make sure they have them. During the spring and summer, they may not always have them available and it would stink to get all the way down there only to see the sign that they're out.

Both Huntington and Smithtown residents can use the Smithtown dump and E. Npt is one of those, so I wouldn't sweat it. Chat Icon
