They accepted our offer- Engineer Report-- Update!

The buyers who almost went to contract on the house before us just had an engineer go over the house a few days ago.

They are hesitating signing the contract- but according to the REA it has nothing to do with the engineer's report.

The sellers have now accepted our offer- and our REA said we have the option of buying the engineer report that was already done at a steep discount (versus hiring our own.) Are there any pro's and con's to this?

The REA wasn't suggesting that it's the way to go- simply offering it as an option.

Update-

We've decided to go with our own engineer and the REA is telling me to get someone there today! Isn't that a bit crazy? How am I going to get someone there on such short notice and on a holiday weekend, nonetheless??

I left a message with someone reccommended to me by a woman I work with...but I doubt it's going to be possible today.

I'd pass and hire my own.

I was there for our inspection. It's something I think anyone considering buying a home should do. This way you see it for yourself.

I Completely Agree that you should hire your own engineer to inspect the house because as they go from room to room and inspect everything you can ask lots of questions.

Re: They accepted our offer- Engineer Report

DH and I were there for the engineer. He went through everything with us and really showed us every nook aqnd crany of the house. It was worth every penny to see what he saw and learn about the house. The guy even showed us little things that didn't have anything to do with the report itself and gave us great advice on what to do first and what could wait, etc....

No way, hire your own. In the big scheme of things, the $400 or whatever it is for your own is worth the $$ compared to what a nightmare you might be in for after buying the house would cost you.

I 100% agree!!! He taught us how to change the air filter, shut the water off in case of an emergency, how to maintain the water heater, etc. The guy we used was incredible (i used him for 2 home inspections) and I HIGHLY recommend him. FM me if you want his info!
