at 4 months, he dabbled with toys... but quickly would become distracted. Interest and curiousity only really popped up at 5 months...

makes me wonder about all of those toys geared towards newborns Chat Icon

My DD will be 4 months old on Thursday. She started showing interest in toys within the past week or so. She's still working on her hand/eye coordination.

Re: when did your dc really start responding to toys, book, etc.?

she started grabbing for toys and putting them in her mouth at like 3.5 months and pull on all the toys on her activity mat and "talk" to them... We put her in the jumparoo a couple of times and she likes it, but isn't utlizing it to the maximum yet!!! She's obsessed with the toys on her bouncy seat

Between 3 and 4 months. Get things that you can press and play music.

They really start to get a personality after 3 months!

Between 4-5 months. The best toys before then are things with lights and music that you can turn on and will stay on and then hanging toys over the playmat.

She'll be 3 months on Thursday and she defintely shows much more interest in things but only if they MOVE and/or make music. She started holding things in I put them in her hand recently. She grabs toys I think by accident on her playmat and will hold onto them.

I read to Abby in utero and very soon after she was born. The calming, rythmic tones seemed to interest her, Once she was a little older, I was able to sit her on my lap and she looked at the pages. Now I think she understands turning them and looking at pictures.

DD is almost 3.5 months and within the past 2 weeks I'd say, she has started grabbing at her toys on the toy bar and shaking her rattlle toys...She is also starting to hold her bottle a little, which I am Chat Icon about, my DS was a lazy bones until proably close to 5-6 months Chat Icon ...Haven't read to her yet Chat Icon

Re: when did your dc really start responding to toys, book, etc.?

He really started showing a lot more interest around 4 months, always seemed to enjoy things before then but he didn't start grabbing and holding and looking at his toys until 4 months. I used to have to hold things for him since they seemed too heavy for him. Now at 5 months he gives a big smile when we show him certain toys, and I started sitting him in the high chair and put his toys out infront of him and he bangs them on the tray and plays with them, the cutest thing to see your baby finally do this, it's defnitely so much more fun now at 5 months.

My DS started to reach for toys and put them in his mouth around 3.5 months. We started putting him in the exersaucer and he loves it. It is sooo cute to watch him "play".

DS likes a lot of his toys for about 10 seconds and then loses interest....lol!! He does love his bouncy seat and we just put the exersaucer together and he is thrilled to bits by this thing....yeh!! Chat Icon wanted to add that DS is 3.5 months
