Audio recording is illegal in NYS unless you disclose it. Videotaping is not. I don't know if you plan on letting those who are being watched know, but I wanted you to know that.

Re: Let's talk nanny cam!
Ours was about 2K with installation and did audio and video as well as recording. I believe they are now cheaper because the equipment, and therefore the installation process has gotten better and simpler
Audio recording is illegal, indeed. But who said you need to mention anything to the nanny? In fact, IMOO, it defeats the purpose of the nanny cam--you want to see what the person is really like, not what she is like when she knows she is being watched.

Re: Let's talk nanny cam!
That's really for our ABA sessions so I can watch from another room. DS is "acting" up when I am in the same room as his therapists. It was at their suggestion. Nothing illegal here. Just watching what they do so I can "participate" too by seeing what they do so I can be on board on what to do with DS.

Can you get a video baby monitor type set, like the Summer ones? That might be cheaper and they have sound

I disagree. I think by stating you have nanny cams, it lets the nanny know that you are able to watch and see what they are doing. I rather they always be on their best behavior then catch them doing something that could be potentially dangerous to my child.
Do you have to watch in real time? If not, just use a video recorder.

I would prefer to watch real time because I can talk to her on the other side of the wall, which we do once in a while during the session.

If you have a Big Lots store in your area, I read earlier in the week that they have the Summer Infant ones for $50. Might be worth checking out if you have a store nearby.

The Summer monitor is probably the most cost effective. I know that 4 cameras without hard wire installation was about $1500. This was a few years ago and I do know they have wi fi now.

Re: Let's talk nanny cam!
We got a webcam. You can watch it on the computer. Its been working out great for us. Several of my dh coworkers have also gotten one and are happy with it. What you need it for you might be better off with with the summer video monitor, these are great we have had them in my boys room since they were born.

This is a GREAT thing to do, Sophie - I have been watched many a session and strongly encourage it!!! It avoids that "not when mommy's in the room" stuff, but you can still be a part f the team, ask questions, and follow through when the therapist isn't there....
