DS is so uncomfortable.. it breaks my heart..

Our original problem he didnt have a BM for 2 days and was straining and straining finally he went on thursday with out stimulation. Well now he is back to strain strain strain to the point it is waking him up at nite and nothing i do seems to work. I called ped he told DH to give 1/4 tsp of mylanta (im nervous about doin this) has anyone tried this? then he said to use rectal themometer. Now i dont know how to do this. I just put in just past the metal tip as if i was taking temp.. is that all i do. We have an appt tues. I just want him to be comfortable. It must be the formula im sure but doctor doesnt want to change it just yet. Any other advice?

Both my DDs were constipated in the beginning...

With the thermometer trick, put it in just to the end of the metal tip with lots of vaseline and very gently swirl in around...make sure you have a diaper under and covering the area like a catcher's mitt, because it could come right out...

Another trick is to give an ounce or two of warm water in a bottle...this helped my DD go about an hour later.

I would stay far, far away from Mylanta or prune juice if at all possible...it could have the complete opposite effect and also make baby uncomfortable...

Thanks!! I happy to report that we have POOPIES!! he seems soo happy now and is just laying there looking all around.
