Shampoo Drama
I'm hoping someone has some suggestions for shamppos! My son was fine with shampoos until recently. Now he twists, screams, and tries to climb out of the tub when we give him one. I usually wind up dumping water on his head and trying very hard not to get soap in his eyes, though with all his fighting, it's hard not to do so.
This switch happened after we moved him to the big tub (he's 11 months now and does not fit in his baby tub at all), though it didn't start immediately when we switched him. We use the same shampoo, and I can't think of anything else that's different.
I'm thinking of shampooing his hair over the sink instead and see how he copes with that because it is miserable in the tub, but I would love to hear suggestions if any of you dealt with this. TIA!

I have always had this problem too- now I have her hold a washcloth over her eyes and it seems to help a little.

I use Aveeno, or California Baby, and have never had a problem.

why do you think its the shampoo and not him disliking the bathtub? I have no advie bc I also need advice...Bathtub is a nightmare by us so we've lessened to every other day. She is doing the same thing as your son except I dont think its the shampoo...I think its the tub itself.

my dd was the same way for a while but I gave her a barbie doll to take with her in the bath and when I wash her hair she washes the doll's hair.
I also put a face rag on her forehead to keep the water from running down her face.
this seemed to work for us.

Mainly because he loves his bath, up until the shampoo which I usually do last so he doesn't get too cold. But he's happy splashing, playing with his toys, etc. I've tried giving him his toys to hold, but that doesn't do it either. He usually shrieks with delight when we put him in the tub. So all is well till the shampoo.
It could be that he doesn't like my holding him back in the tub. He didn't mind it in his little tub, but that kept him pretty snug. So I could try over the sink, but I'm not sure that will work either.
Maybe it's just a phase too--he was really fighting us and screaming every time we needed to change his diaper until recently as well. Now he's fine with it again, and he was before.

Thanks--I should try this, with all the thrashing he might be getting soap and water in his eyes. The doll washing idea is cute too, though his dolls are stuffed animals--no hair! Maybe I should let him take one in the tub though, he does love holding them for comfort.

For one of my kids I use this Shampoo Rinse cup
The other likes these visors
I started using them when they went in the big tub. Got them both at BRU.

Definitely let him take a doll in with him. We also bought her a Winnie the Pooh bath doll. They sell all kinds of dolls for the bath. Sometimes she flips out when I say it's time for a bath but when I tell her that her doll is dirty and needs a bath she's fine. She runs in without any problems.

You know, when I first saw the shampoo cups my reaction was "they really make something for everything," and I couldn't see buying one. But I was thinking about them after the last disastrous bath and wondering if they would make any difference. So thanks for posting!
So I'll pick up a cup or visor and a doll that he can take in there with him. I don't know if he'll get washing the doll yet, but he might just like holding it.
