People inviting themselves
to your shower? What is up with that and who does that?
I totally understand that people are excited about me being prengnant and I am truly grateful that people care. Don't get me wrong.
I have just had quite a few people say to me, well when it is time for your shower, let me know and I will give you my address so your family can send me an invite. I have not thought about a guest list yet, but I know I do not want it to get out of hand and will reserve it for family and close friends. I am already feeling bad considering that it will have to be held after the xmas holidays after people have spent their money on xmas gifts.
I think it is rude for people to assume they are coming though. Have any of you experienced this? What are your thoughts?

Re: People inviting themselves
I didn't experience this with the baby shower (since I didn't have one), but I'm having people ask the details of the christening assuming that they are invited and they aren't. They are asking me and my mom and our response is that we are trying to keep it small without coming out and directly saying that they are not invited.
My family is really big so it would be hard for me to invite everyone and I don't want to have a 150 person party just not to offend people. As it is it's going to be about 100 -- which is just close family and friends.
It sucks being put on the spot like that.

Re: People inviting themselves
I didn't have people inviting themselves to my shower, however I did have someone I know (who was invited) ask if certain people were invited to my shower....people who I NEVER see.

Re: People inviting themselves
WOW- Usually its the opposite. It must be nice to have so many people excited for you!
I actually find that I am often invited to showers for people that I am just aquaintances with and didn't ask for them to be invited to my shower. This kind of annoys me actually. I think it's like gift hunting

Again, not being ungrateful, but these are people who I am not that close with, just colleagues, and very casual acquaintances, that I would not hang with normally.
I hope I did not sound ungrateful, it is just I would never think of inviting myself to someone's event. I remember going through this when I was getting married.

Re: People inviting themselves
No experience with baby showers, but I know people try to invite themeselves to my wedding. Take it in stride. I would simply say your inviting family and trying to keep in small.
