FYI similiac and BPA
After seeing a piece on the news tonight about plastics with the recycle code 7 containing BPA, my sister and I checked the 2 oz disposable similiac bottles - they had a #7 on them....! These were the same formula bottles that they used in Winthrop. Just hought I'd pass this along to all the moms tobe

I believe you only have to worry about BPA if you heat them in the microwave.

That's according to the FDA, but many studies show otherwise - if you could avoid them altogether I would. The large similiac jugs that you can fill your own bottles with has a recyclable code of 2 so those are safe

There is also BPA in the liners of formula cans. I think it is the powdered kind, but if you are planning on using formula, you should probably look into it.

I am not an alarmist at all and to tell you the truth don't pay too much attention to this BPA thing at all. I'm just stating the facts. I think the concern with cans is that when they sit in the factories, on trucks, etc, they can be heated to the point where BPA can leach into the product inside.

Oh I know, but there isn't much you can do about it. Especially if your child, like mine was, could only take Gentlease, which only comes in a can.
Honestly, I think the BPA is really just nonsense.
ETA: I don't think they could be heated THAT hot on a truck or in a factory. I mean, we are talking HOT, like microwave hot. I mean, they even say you can put the bottle in warm water to warm it

I know. It absolutely kills me. I try to avoid it as much as possible, but it's hard. I think there is also BPA in the plastic gerber food containers and plastic apple sauce containers.

NOOOOO...as product wears down, the BPA can leech into the liquid. All plastic breaks down over time.
Do a google seach on BPA studies and you will get a whoel page of very good educated sources showing its effects.
Other countries wouldnt ban it for the heck of it...
