That WAS a gamble--I swear I'll never understand the whole "wood paneling" thing from the 70s/80s. But watch, I'll be saying the same thing about wainscoting and chair rails in about 20 years

Yes, I was very worried....out of 4 walls, 2 are perfect. 1 has some big cracks around the window and some other hairline cracks. The 4th wall has A LOT of hairline cracks.
Still better than the panneling and we can probably seal this all up ourselves with joint compound and some finger swirls.
We're going to sand all 4 walls because we have to get the glue off. So, the stucco will be much more faint, but it will still be there. And, it will still be better than paneling.

I just spoke to a neighbor and she gave me a guy's business card. He charged her $200 to go around THE WHOLE HOUSE and touch up her stucco cracks!!

sounds like you won on that gamble.
my family room is panelling all the way around... knotty pine. it's all in very good shape, but i can't stand it.
i think you've inspired me to do something about it.
can't wait to see pictures.
