I have very itchy welts/hives all over my body (Update at bottom)

I'm going freaking crazy over here!! At first I thought I was eaten alive but these are huge welts all over my body (ALL over my body), so now I'm thinking that I am allergic to something. The only thing i can think of is I ate shrimp last night (my dr wants me eating it since I do not eat any red meat or chicken). I used to be allergic to it when I was a child, is it possible that being PG brought the allergy back on?

And what can I do?? I'm ITCHY?? Can I take benedryl? Can I use a bendryl cream??

sounds like an allergic reaction- i would call your dr and get some med in you.

The same thing happend to me a few years ago. I went for all kinds of allergy testing, etc. I wound up being allergic to the purple Snuggle (I figured it out myself).

Call your primary care doctor and see if they can fit you in today. Don't take anything until they see you.

It's a holiday weekend, if you wait too long and the rash is still bothering you, you will end up having to go to the emergency room.

Call your OB to see what he recommends. Many OBs ok benadryl even in first trimester, used sparingly. I know both OBs I saw said it could be used if necessary.This sounds like a case where you may need it. Let us know after you speak with your dr and make sure you calll asap due to the holiday weekend! Hopefully it goes away. I would say it sounds like the shrimp for sure.

I called my OB and they said i can take Benedryl but that I need to get to either my Primary care or the ER. Heading out now to my primary care! I'll let you know how it goes!

I was used to eating a particular dish at Sea a Thai resturant in Williamburg and when I went there at 7 months preggo ordered the same dish I got an allergic reaction...I said all that to say its possible the preganacy brought it on.

sounds like Pupps, a rash acquired during pregnancy, very itchy!!!!

I had this reaaaallllly bad but more into my pregnancy. I would have to put cortisone on my belly to stop the annoying itchyness!

Hey Guys!! Just got back from the doctor and getting blood work taken! They have no idea whats causing the hives (they do not think its from the shrimp), they said they've had many people coming in with hives lately and that its just something i got- could be airborne They gave me XYZAL to take (its category B, so its safe), and a topical streriod cream (category C- so i'm going to try bendryl spray 1st). They also sent me for bloodwork to test for any allergies.

Suffolk OBGYN has been AWESOME throughout this! Maryanne (one of the nurses there) got back to me immediately when I 1st called, then called back an hour later to see if i got in with my DR or if I had to go to the ER, and then she had me call her as soon as I got out of the doctors! And she has already called to check back in. I'm lovin them over there right now!!

Wow, I wonder what it's from? Do you still have them? Are they any worse? How long do they want you to use the meds for?

They're getting worse and keep showing up in new locations (in places no one should have itchy hives). My doctor said it might get worse befoe it gets better. She gave 10 days worth of the XYZAL, so hopefully I won't need it any longer than that! I'm gonna try holding off on the steroid cream (my obgyn said its safe for short term use but I'm going to try to go without it).

i wanna know what its from too! I need something to blame!

wow.. sounds .. well it sounds irritating

I know my office had a scare with Shingles and they said it appeared as a very itchy painful hives/bumps.
