Do Petite Women Deliver Earlier?

Question for moms who are very petite - ie. around 5' or even under.

Did you deliver earlier than the due date? My friend who's 5'1 recently delivered 2 weeks early and I've heard that this is common among petite women...

TIA!

Re: Do Petite Women Deliver Earlier?

I'm about 5'3" and I delivered 7 weeks early. But I don't think it had much to do with my height.

Re: Do Petite Women Deliver Earlier?

My mom is 4'10". When she was due with me. She went to to doctor for a check up 3 weeks before I was due and the doctor said you haven't even dropped yet, you have another 3 weeks. The next day, her belly dropped and out I came, all within 2 hours. She also had my brother 2 weeks early.

I am 5' and had DS 10 days early. BUT I had GD and no amniotic fluid so a failed induction and an emergency C-section.

someone did a very long correlation poll a while back and I remember everyone being all kinds of heights and statures and there was absolutely no visible correlation. Me, I am 5'3 and delivered 4 days early.

Re: Do Petite Women Deliver Earlier?

Thanks all, I read on some medical site that there is some correlation between premature babies and a women's height so just had to verify this.

I'm 5'1" and my DS was only 3 days early. I did end up in a c-section because he was large and I got stuck at 6cm.

Re: Do Petite Women Deliver Earlier?

I'm just shy of 5'1 and I delivered at 38w 1d. It was a scheduled cesarean but I actually had gone into labor that morning so I would have had DS by 38w 2d either way.

I'm 5'3" and went 6 weeks early. I think it had to do with a bad chiropractic adjustment. OB thought it was 9/11 that did it (delivery was 9/19). I don't see height playing a role.

My sisters are 5' and 4'11" and went full-term with all of their children.

Re: Do Petite Women Deliver Earlier?

My mother is 5 feet and had all 4 of her children late (from 1-4 weeks).
I'm 5'3" and I was 6 days early.
I don't think one has anything to do with the other.

I'm about 5'2" and I delivered at 38w6d. I already knew DS was going to come early because I went into pre-term labor 4 or 5 times beginning at 31 weeks and was on meds to stop contractions. Within a few days of stopping the meds, I went into labor.

My friend is just under 4'11 and they would not let her go past her duedate b/c of her size and the baby's size. As she walked into the hospital to be induced on her due date - her water broke

Re: Do Petite Women Deliver Earlier?

I never heard of the heigth and early delivery correlation.

I am 5'2 (AND A HALF!!!) and I had a scheduled c-section at 39 weeks. I was zero effaced or dilated. DS most likely would have come late per my OB.

Re: Do Petite Women Deliver Earlier?

I am 5'4, and had a schedule c-section on my due date as DS just wasn't coming and he was 9lb 14oz already!
If I had of waited I would have definitely delivered late as I never even had a contraction and was not dilated or effaced!

I am 5ft and was induced a week early due to preeclampsia.

I don't think height has anything to do with it really. My mom was a week late with me and 2 weeks early with my sister and she is 5'2".
