how long do you burp baby?
After feeding DD, I'll put her on my shoulder and burp her for a few minutes but then she usually gets sleeps and slinks down and gets comfy on my chest. I find it hard to get a burp out of her. Are you supposed to keep burping them until you actually hear a burp? I feel like this might never happen sometimes with DD!

I'd try for a few minutes...have you considered burping her over your leg--that sometimes works as well. Also I found walking around w/ her helps too.

Re: how long do you burp baby?
Change positions frequently if she is falling asleep, over the shoulder, on the knee - when she's sitting on my lap I move her torso up and down (like sit ups) or rotate it clockwise or counter clockwise - it helps move the burp up. there is also face down on the lap, but DD HATEs this position, so I don't use it.
DD is a terrible burper - I read in Baby 411 that if she doesnt burp in 10 minutes, then give up... likely she will wake up 10 minutes later and burp with your help...frustrating I know...

We burp DS on our laps. I will sit him upright on my lap after a feeding, and cup his chin in my hands to keep his head steady. After a few minutes of patting him on the back this way, he lets out a nice loud burp lol.

Re: how long do you burp baby?
luckily DD has always been an easy burper.
Have you tried a few bounces on your knee (supporting the head)? that helps bring the bubbles up. Then hit the back on your lap, and it might come up easier.
ETA: I stopped burping on my shoulder after she spit up down my back and onto the floor

DS HATES being burped. I usually burp him for 5 minutes, lay him back and then try for another minute or 2.

DS was a bad burper. Sometimes it would take 10 - 15 minutes of active burping to get him to burp.
