Those of you who have gotten an epidural before
Did it give you a terrible headache? I'm sure everyone is different but I'm just trying to get an idea of how many people suffered from terrible headaches after getting the epi.
At any rate I'm sure having a headache afterward is nothing compared to the labor pains.

Re: Those of you who have gotten an epidural before
I had a headache the next day and actually got dizzy as I was wheeling the baby back to my room. That scared me a bit. But motrin helped just fine

Re: Those of you who have gotten an epidural before
I had no headache, but it did make my blood pressure drop so i needed meds for that. It also made me have the shakes real bad.

Re: Those of you who have gotten an epidural before
With DS I was very very dousy after labor and when I first received it I was so itchy all over which means it is working. Now I don't know if I was tired because I labored through the night so I was up for over 24 hours straight and then pushed for a hour or it was the drugs.
With DD I had the itchiness again but I wasn't as tired after everything was said and done. I also labored at night but only pushed for about 10-15 minutes.

Re: Those of you who have gotten an epidural before
I had an extremely severe one (had to go back for a blood patch) but they told me that what happened to me happens to less than 1% of people.
ETA: despite that, I'll get it again. I didnt feel a single THING during the birth.

Re: Those of you who have gotten an epidural before
I didn't get a headache at all. I did get back pain at the needle site in my back for about a year.
But even with the back pain, I couldn't have lived without the Epi.

Re: Those of you who have gotten an epidural before
No side effects. The only thing I plan to ask for this time is that I lay down in the fetal position to get it done. With baby #2 I sat over the table and it was no joke! when I had it with baby #1 I laid down and it didnt hurt. So I will see what they say next week.

3 of my friends have had an epi recently. 2 of them had the severe headaches and had to go back to the hospital to have it fixed (or whatever they do) my other friend had no side effects

Re: Those of you who have gotten an epidural before
I had a spinal (kinda the same as an epidural) and I had extreme complications from it and still do today. (9 months pp) The headache afterward was horrific. IF I ever have another child, I will do it naturally.

Yes a bad migraine that made me vomit shortly after it was removed. The first and only migraine of my life. Even still, I plan on getting one this time around

Re: Those of you who have gotten an epidural before
im going to start by saying i LOVED my epi and would do it all over again...never even thought of the effects from it until this post. I had awful shakes afterwards, but that was probably just from giving birth...the doctor said it was normal...when they got me up to use the washroom i pretty much blacked out so it was back to bed and hooked back up to the IV for a few more hours. I have very sensitive skin and the stuff they use on your back to hold the line in gave me a rash and it was pretty itchy afterwards...also my back was really sore after for about a week or so.
again even with that i would do it all over again!

Re: Those of you who have gotten an epidural before
I got a severe headache for 6 days with terrible ringing ears. I didn't realize it was from the epi until it was gone. I was only comfortable laying down and was on a ton of pain meds and they didn't work! . I also lost feeling in my right leg for 4 weeks. I couldn't feel myself shaving, couldn't walk right and couldn't do stairs. At 8 weeks pp, I still have a hard time lifting me leg to get in the shower.
With that said, the epi didn't even work for me. It worked through 30 minutes of contractions and then stopped! I was told for some people it just doesn't work Anyways with all those side effects, and it not working my next baby I will go natural and research the Bradley Method.

Re: Those of you who have gotten an epidural before
Excellent question. This is a huge concern of mine. After having a spinal tap (same location as epidural, same place in the spinal canal) I had the most awful headache of my life (and I get migraines) This headache lasted 5 days and I couldn't even sit up with out vomiting. No pain medication helped at all. I am petrified of ever getting an epidural because there is no way I could cope with a new baby with what I suffered after my spinal tap, so I was wondering if others had experienced this as well.

Re: Those of you who have gotten an epidural before
I had absolutely no problems or side effects from the epi other than it wore off towards the end
OH and apparently I pulled a muscle in my back from pushing since i couldn't feel much, but that was indirectly related to the epi I guess. I was given something for it and was fine in a couple of days.
