HPT Poll
So, I have been doing a little lurking on the iVillage TTC MB and I was reading some posts that kinda relate to my experience. Since I have had what either are back to back chemicals, or 3 defective HPTs in a row, I want to do a little poll here.
It seems like A LOT of people get these false negatives or defective tests with blue dye HPTs-- to the point that I don't know how these companies can manufacture and sell them in good conscience. Unless everyone is just having chemicals and not knowing it.
So, here's my poll.... feel free to comment. I hope the choices are different enough, wanted to cover off on all bases.

Re: HPT Poll
As time went on, I stopped using HPTs altogether and would only use it if my period was late. I was sick of the disappointment and it was really taking an emotional toll on me. Which is also why I stopped analyzing every little twitch or cramp.
Unfortunately, early miscarriage/chemical pregnancies are more common than most people think. I think there is a good chance, if you are testing early and getting a faint BFP and then a BFN a couple of days later, it's a chemical pregnancy. I'm not saying this to be an alarmist, but it really is more common than most people think.

Re: HPT Poll
I know it's pretty common, and nothing to really worry about...
I am just curious if that is in fact what is causing these false positives, or the tests just stink. Ya know?
It just seems like it has happened to a lot of peeps.

Re: HPT Poll
I voted "other" since I have never used a blue dye test & I have no personal experience. I do lurk on twoweekwait.com and I have read TONS of complaints about blue dye evaps.

Re: HPT Poll
I've never used any other kind and they've always been accurate.
But then again, I've only used them a handful of times.
And, everytime I've tested, I've tested either when AF was late or the day I was due - so that minimizes the chance that I would experience a chemical drastically.

Re: HPT Poll
ok, this is going to sound REALLY stupid, but what is a blue dye test
do you mean it is blue instead of red, or is that a company??

She is referring to a test that has blue dye instead of pink or red dye.

Re: HPT Poll
I got my first BFP on a blue dye test, it was a target band with two lines.
I have read that the +/- tests get a lot of false positives.

Re: HPT Poll
i have used tons of HPTs in my lifetime and i never got a false positive on any of them - either with a line test or a +/- test.
as strange as it sounds, i definitely think it would be more common to have an HPT detect a chemical pregnancy than it would be for the test to be defective.

Re: HPT Poll
i think that since people test so early now they are detecting chemical pregnancies which are so much more common than people think, we just didn't know years ago because people didn't test so early
