Those on Metformin: did you change your diet
Did you change your diet once you were put on Metformin?

Re: Those on Metformin: did you change your diet
My doctor suggested I follow WW to lose weight, not just because I was put on met.
Aside from alcohol and pizza, I haven't figured out a direct connection between what I eat and what prompts an episode.

Re: Those on Metformin: did you change your diet
Yup.
I watch my carb intake. I cut out my all time fav white bread and now only eat wheat. I still eat pasta because I love it too much. I also noticed that when I drink whole milk it makes me spend the day in the bathroom. I drink 1% and I am fine.
I've been on it for 7 months and I still have episodes here and there, but not as bad as the first week I started taking it.

I lost a little bit of weight after I started the Met, that was mostly because I was sick from it and I had cut out all sugar from my diet. I lost about 7lbs. I then went to a nutrionist that specialized in PCOS and I lost another 10lbs. I joined WW this past January and have lost so far about 17lbs. I think the Met definately helps since it's hard to lose weight when you have PCOS, but by no means has the weight melted off. I've had to really work to lose the weight (diet and excercise)

No. I tried cutting carbs and sugar, but it didn't seem to matter what I ate, I was still having stomach issues, I think it is because I also have IBS. However, last week I switched to the XR and things have been better so far.
Things I do have a big problem with: -alcohol (I had two glasses of wine one night and was so sick. I have never gotten sick from drinking, so I know it had to have been from the met)
-an excess of sugar and/or carbs. Like if I go to a party and eat four hundred deserts. Or eat pasta for a meal and have a couple of pieces of bread with it.

Re: Those on Metformin: did you change your diet
If the Met irritated your stomach--when did it happen? The first week? or never? did you gradually get your doses up?
How does it respond with alcohol?

Mine has been bad since the beginning. I have been on it for almost a year. But I switched to the XR last week and things have been good with that so far, I should have asked about it sooner instead of suffering all this time!!
For me, alcohol is bad, bad, bad. I think I responded earlier - I drank two glasses of wine one night and was so sick - and I have never gotten sick from drinking. I haven't touched alcohol since that day (which was in Nov. or Dec.) - its just not worth it.

again, everyone responds differently to Met. I had one glass of wine on Saturday night and was in the bathroom alot. Give it a try, if it doesn't affect you, great... if it does, then you know.
