Kitchen islands?

I want to add an island in my kitchen. Well, sort of an island. It will be attached to one wall. Does anybody have one that has cabinets on both sides (or 3 sides) of the island? That is what I'd like to do, but DH thinks it will look weird.

A pennisula? I think it would look fine. My neighbor has it and it looks good.

Re: Kitchen islands?

I have a penninsula in my kitchen. On the side that faces the dinning room it is a china cabinet with glass front doors. On the side that faces my kitchen, I have it indented with two stools and a cabinet on either side of the stools (actually one side is a cabinet and the other side is a wine fridge but you could have two cabinets) The end of the peninsula that is opposite the wall is a wood panel that looks like the cabinet front but is not a real cabinet---I dont think you can have a closed cabinet if it is a rectangle because it would interfere with the other cabinets on the sides. But I have seen it where it is an open shelf like decoration but those peninsulas are rounded off at the end. I hope this helps and it made sense. feel free to FM me if you need more details

Re: Kitchen islands?

My MIL added this to her kitchen when she got it redone several years ago. She had the washer and dryer in the kitchen, moved them to the basement and had a peninsula put there instead. It has lower cabinets that you can access from both sides (doors on both sides).

ETA: I think hers looks good!

we have a peninsula, but with a half wall - so only cabinets on the kitchen side. But when we were looking there were definitely cabinets that opened on both sides.

Our island has cabinets on 3 sides. The side without cabinets has doors on it though so it looks like there's cabinets there, they just don't open.

I have cabinets on both sides of the island. As well as the sink and dishwasher. You can see it in my album. I'll see if I can post.
