BC question

Hi Ladies,

This is my first post on this board. I stopped taking bc pills yesterday, and I have to say I am a little nervous. DH and I are not quite ready to start a family, but we both felt that I needed to get off the pill. Here's why...I've been on BC consistently since 1998, and I'm terrified of not having a regular cycle. I'm in my late 20s and hope to be pg before I turn 30. I was hoping that those of you who spent a long time on the pill would ease my mind a bit and post how long you were on the pill, how long it took your body to regulate its cycles, and how long after you went off the pill it took you to get a BFP.

Don't worry!

I'm 31 and had been on the pill for about 10 years. Went off at the end of October and just got my BFP this weekend, which was our first month trying!

I, too, was convinced that we would have problems, but - knock wood - so far, so good!

ETA: My first month off was about 36 days, but I definitely saw a pattern in my cycles over the next two months (I was temping).

You'll be fine!

I was on the pill for about 12 years, and went off at the end of the summer (oh yea, I'm 31yo). My cycle started up at exactly the right time the next month, and now we're TTCing. The PMS was atrocious, but I'm keeping in mind that it's for a good cause.

I was on the pill for 15 years. It took me 3 months to regulate more or less. I think it is important to realize and accept that your cycles may or may not be like clockwork for quite a bit of time (if at all). But keep track of them. The more information you have, the easier it will be when you start seeing a doctor for TTC.

Thank you ladies for sharing--you have put my mind somewhat at ease. I will start tracking my cycles next month (my first period off the pill). I hope to chat with all of you in the near future!

Did you have normal periods when you went off the pill - length, flow, etc.

Just curious - I am not TTC as of yet but just want to know people's experiences with BC & AF

unless you had problems before, i wouldn't worry. i had been on BC since i was 18 and i am 27 now. i went off BC in september and got PG in december. it may take a while for your cycles to regulate but, as i said, unless you had issues before i doubt you will have problems getting PG. it's a good idea to do temping now though, before you start TTC, and checking your CM so you get an idea of how your natural cycles are. (wish i did!) good luck!!

ETA: i went on BC to begin with b/c my cycles were short - i would often have cycles of 20 days or less!! when i cam off BC my cycles were 25 days, 25 days, and 23 days. i started taking b-complex vitamins in my third cycle (the 23-day one) to lengthen my LP and it may have worked because the fourth cycle i got PG.

I was on the pill for 10+ years. I got pregnant the first month that I stopped BC.
