I just had my 35wk appt a few days ago and mentioned that I was feeling a lot of pressure lately. The doctor did the internal (also, because I've been feeling a little "leaky" lately...turns out it's just urine from the baby smashing down on my poor bladder!). The internal was quick, no different then a pap, really. She said my cervix was actually thinning and I'm already 1cm dilated.

I just wanted to let u know that this was all done because I asked. I wasn't scheduled for an internal exam yet.....

HTH. Good luck at your next appt!!

thank you!! im thinking he is going to give me an exam cause i feel alot of pressure and just feel alot different and im getting those BH contractions and at time are painful so i want to make sure they are BH and not the real thing. I also have alot more "leakage" as well. I kinda want an internal to see if im dilated but im nervous at the same time Chat Icon

babyin08: I know how you feel. I was shocked to hear I was even 1 cm dilated. It made things feel so much more "real"!!
The funny thing is, is that although it's great to know I'm not leaking amniotic fluid, it s*cks to know that this little bit of incontinence is just another symptom of the "beauty of pregnancy". Chat Icon

I did not have one until 38 weeks, IMO, there is really no need for them

Re: Internal

My first is this Friday and I will be 35W1D. I had one at 26W when I switched Drs. They check to see if you are dilating. For me it was uncomfortable. Some people say it doesn't hurt though but for me it did. May be TMI but I bled for a full day afterward also but OB said that is normal.

Re: Internal

Mine started at 36 weeks. It really wasn't that bad, it was just like the part of your annual exam where the dr puts a couple of fingers inside you and presses on your stomach to check your ovaries and such. The anticipation was worse than the actual exam.

I had mine at 37 weeks. It was a little uncomfortable but I thought it would be worse.

Re: Internal

I just had my first one at 38 weeks. It wasn't anywhere near as bad as I expected it would be.
