Is a "bathfitters" type bathroom the way to go?

Is a "bathfitters" type bathroom the way to go?
Our bathroom is a MESS! It's the last room we really need a lot of work in. We have gross tile going up the walls, and an even grosser bath area.
I was interested in bathfitters or something like that, but I've been told it may actually be cheaper to buy a new tub and have ceramic tile done (just in the shower)
I plan on painting the rest of the bathroom since we are on a limited budget.

My mom did it and she wound up redoing it with tile and a new tub
it wasnt worth it.
JMO i would get tile and just tile around the tub and have the rest wall. u can get a tub in lowes for 200-250

ITA. the previous owners put a bathfitter in and I hate it. cant wait to rip it out.

I had bathfitters come to my co-op when I lived there. They wanted to charge me 5-6 grand for my tiny bathroom. I would gut it and redo it in tile. It looks so much nicer.

I looked into it also and would not do it. I would certainly put up new tile and tub if you can. If you cannot I would then glaze over it all as a last resort. But bath fitter, no way. You can grow mold under there and it is not impressive should you need to sell. I would not recommend it.
