Bronchiolitis (RSV)
I just got back from the dr with ds and he has Bronchiolitis/RSV. I have to give him nebulizer treatments every 4-6 hours.
He's breathing faster than he should be and is wheezing pretty bad.
He was at the dr one week ago with a fever, 3 days later with a "cold" and now this.....
Can anyone put my mind at ease, I'm a nervous wreck.

Sounds like you're on the right path. It will take a few weeks for him to feel completely back to normal.
You on the other hand - well it's 6 years for me & I'm still not over it.

Re: Bronchiolitis (RSV)
haven't been through it yet myself(knock on wood, DS is only 2 months), but i wanted to send you . he will be okay - kids get RSV all the time, it's practically a rite of passage for little ones.

Re: Bronchiolitis (RSV)
DS had bronchiolitis when he was 4mths. Very hard to see your child sick. If he is still having difficulty breating or not eating/drinking you should call your Dr.
I hope he feels better soon

Re: Bronchiolitis (RSV)
Oh no, poor Justin and poor you! They did the RSV test - did he test positive? The girls had something with the upper respiratory system (not sure if it was RSV) when they were 9 weeks old. I hated seeing them like that. I put a humidifier in their room and that seemed to do the trick. Make sure its not too hot in his room either.
I hope he feels better soon!

Aww, Kristen I hope Justin feels better soon!!!
I don't know if you remember but Julia was in the hospital for 4 days with an phenmonia when she was a year old cause her breathing was fast and she was wheezing and had high fevers, once she got the treatments she needed (nebulizer) she felt much better!!
I'm sure he will feel much better once he gets some treatments into him!!

i completly agree. my dd had rsv when she was 2 months old.(5 years ago next month) she was admitted to lij for one week cause she got so bad and her oxygen levels went way down. but once she started the neb treatments, she improved immediatly. by one week she was 100%.

Molly had broncilotis at 6 weeks old and spent three days in the hospital. It is so so scary, but you are doing the absolute right thing. Molly's started as a cold and then a cough and it just got prgoressively worse. But she was just fine! Just keep doing what you are doing and everything will be ok. You're doing a great job!

Re: Bronchiolitis (RSV)
He will be fine My DD got it at 2 wks old, had to be hospitalized overnight(scariest night of my life- alone at the hospital with her), and then had the treatments for two weeks.
She got over it completely in about a month. The worst part was the isolation since we couldn't have my SIL and her DD over for a month while she recovered. And of course we couldn't go anywhere.
I remember being so upset and frightened and she is a healthy(well, minus a bad cold right now) 11 month old.

Re: Bronchiolitis (RSV)
Wow - I am surprised at how many of us had DC that were hospitalized with RSV. My DS was in the PICU with RSV for five nights last year at 3 months old. It was super scary and he got worse before he got better (I think they say Day 3 is the worst) but knock wood, he has only had little head colds since then. Your baby will be fine - it just scary to go through!!

Re: Bronchiolitis (RSV)
I can put your mind at east to say that if you weren't sent to the hospital and can manage it at home then you are very lucky it hasn't progressed too badly! It is overwhelmingly scary at first, Ryan was in the hospital for 5 days at 4 months old, admitted on his first christmas morning. After going through that I can say that the at home treatments are a breeze once you get the hang of it. Hope your little one feesl better soon!! RSV *****!

Re: Bronchiolitis (RSV)
for you! It is really common to get rsv before a child is two.
Just remember some things I was told in the NICU.... RSV germs can live on things...toys, tables, clothes, hands for 12 hours. This is why it is so important to keep washing things and hands. And RSV season is considered November-April.
Hope your ds feels better

Re: Bronchiolitis (RSV)
That was my son...
HE was breathing hard and fast and the ped suggested the ER....and he was admitted for bronchiolitis for 4 days...As I just told a previous poster..if he is home, its a good , no great sign taht its not severe , or they would admit them for oxygen treatments.
We spent 4 days in the hosp and then were doing neb treatments 5 times a day for over a week and then 2x;s a day for a week and he isfine now, about 3 weeks later .
you just have to watch for excessive wheezing ( every breath) and when they take deep breaths and too fast....if you look at their chest, it should not be caving in.
It was scary but he got better fast so rest assured he will be fine!!!
hugs to you

Re: Bronchiolitis (RSV)
Aw! I hope he feels better soon. That's the treatment, exactly what you are doing. He will get better. My DS #2 had bronchiolitis/RSV when he was 6 weeks old (in July nonetheless!) and it was so hard to see him so miserable, you feel powerless. Even when you have the treatment, it takes a bit. The worst thing about bronchiolitis is it keeps coming back. Any sign of a cold, however mild, my DS ends up on the nebulizer. You do what you have to do as the parent of course but you just feel so bad for them.

Re: Bronchiolitis (RSV)
Hang in there...DS has basically been on and off Nebulizer treatments since he was 2 months...he is currently on his 3rd round. He is 4 months today. We actually just got back from the doctor and he additionally has his 1st ear infection. Thankfully DS is still a good eater and sleeper so we didnt have to contend with that..It gets better though over time.

Re: Bronchiolitis (RSV)
Oh gosh, all these posts have me so worried! i was just in the hosp with ds who is 11 wks and was diagnosed with RSV. Thankfully he wasn't admitted, but sometimes i wonder if he should be there, cause his coughing and breathing are so bad. He's on a nebulizer so hoping that works..it's only been 3 days and no sign of improvement. it breaks my heart to see and hear him suffer..is this a sign that he will be more sick than a baby that never contracted rsv?

NICE
I have a friend who BF for 14 months and her son had RSV too. Not sure why the guilt needs to be thrown out there, especially after the fact. That really bothers me, like you said, as if you need more guilt. As mothers we have a way of creating enough of our own guilt over everything without a know-it-all adding some on top.
Sorry she made you feel worse.
