Do you know anyone with a VERY unique name?
My sister's best friend is Brierley.
I thought to do this post b/c I was putting together certificates for students today and one girl's first name was Ben-Oni. We come across some real crazy names of students, but this one stuck out for some reason.

I once had a student named Sinoda. She explained to me that her parents gave her the name because her father's name was Adonis, and Sinoda is Adonis backward.
There was also a child in that school named Lordgod Allah.

I used to work with someone named Mecca.
I went to grade school with Ninotchka and Azulenus.
My cousin's name is Osiris.

My great Aunt was Findabhair. Pronounced Fin O Vayr. It's kind of the Celtic version of Guinevere. They called her Finn. I love the name and always thought it would be one of my choices if I ever had a daughter.

There was a girl at a school I used to teach at named Raspberry.
my cousin in Ireland named her daughter Daisy and she got a lot of flack for that....
The weirdest ones I've had in my class have been an Archellus and a Deja (as in Deja vu)
Ethnic names are bgreat because I think they really connect kids with their culture. I teach in a school with a lot of Asian (mainly Indian) children and some of those names are just beautiful and very unique in the United States.
But these people who name their kids Nemo and Raspberry and spelling things backwards and making crap up should be shot... those kids are going to be teased all their lives just because their parents are idiots or ignorant or both! This one girl i know named her child Cavan because she told me it was an Irish name. To myself I was like, it's a PLACE in Ireland... that's like naming your kid Arkansas...

I would think so!
My brother-in-law had a student named Greatgod.
I have a lot of students with different ethnic names that are unique to me, but not necessarily unique to their culture (e.g. Nyzaih, Armani, Genesis)

DH's friend is a teacher and his student was named Female (pronounced Fe-mal-A). Her mother did not speak English when she was born and thought that the hospital named her when they put Female and then her last name on her crib. So she kept it Female and this is this girls name. Her brother is Male (mal-A). You cannot make this stuff up.

There used to be a girl on my floor whose name was Geisha, as in Japanise prostitute. A fine name to give your child, indeed.
