How much of your decision to marry your husband
was based on his ability to be a good father?
Just curious. Our LIF guys seem to be great dads!

Re: How much of your decision to marry your husband
I felt that if he treated me well, he would be a great father and I was right.
Also, I suggested he help me babysit my friends kids while we were engaged. He passed.

Re: How much of your decision to marry your husband
Seeing characteristics in becoming a great father was super important. I know my DH will instill excellent values on our children just based of how he is with our nephews, cousins, and other children.
Raising a child/children is certainly no easy task and I need to know I have someone on my side.
DH can't wait to become a daddy and I know he is the best man for the job!

Re: How much of your decision to marry your husband
Ok, nobody laugh, this is the God's honest truth.
I've had this image of "DH" (but before I ever met my DH, just of the guy I was going to marry, whoever he may have been), sitting in my living room, playing with "our kids" and he's wearing jeans and a white t-shirt, but I only saw him from the neck down. For years, I'd had this image.
When I met my DH, I finally saw his face.
I know that's totally mushy, and so not me, but it's not about percentages for me, I just knew. If only we could get the "kids" part going now, we'd be all set!

Re: How much of your decision to marry your husband
Heh.
When Rob and I first started dating he called babies 'money sucking screamboxes' and said he didn't want any. This was almost a dealbreaker since I was sure that I DID want children.. but we dated anyway. Then i got pregnant!
We didn't get married and I was worried that a person who didn't want to be a dad would be a horrible father. It was a stressful pregnancy. We moved in together 2 days before our oldest son was born... and once the baby was born - something in him switched on. I loved him before.. but seeing him with our son just cemented it.
We had another son before we decided to get married and actually only got married in May.
So my decision to marry my husband was 0% on what I believed his ABILITy to be a good father was and about 50% based on what a good father he ACTUALLY was.

Re: How much of your decision to marry your husband
Well Kevin was already such a wonderful father, when I first saw him with his daughter it just melted my heart to see how close they are. The fact that he's her hero, that says it all.

Re: How much of your decision to marry your husband
it played a 100% role, but in the reverse way.
I didnt want kids... he TOTALLY screamed 'father of the year' to me... it almost held me back from getting serious with him, actually.
so although it was for a different reason, it was definitely something that i gave alot of consideration to.

I honestly don't think I really ever gave it much thought.
You should see his rendition of Troy Bolton singing to Gabriella Montez- with my 3 year old daughter in my livingroom every night... I will be selling tickets soon!
He's a great dadoo (as Ava calls him)!!

Re: How much of your decision to marry your husband
I married DH because I fell in love and couldn't imagine life without him. I reeally didn't give much consideration to the fathering part until later on.

It was a big part but not because I was looking for a dad for my children. I think a lot of the qualities that go into being a good dad are the same qualities I was looking for in a husband.

I already knew that having children was not a guarantee for anyone when I got married. But if I'm spending a lifetime with someone without children, I'd want the same characteristics.

Re: How much of your decision to marry your husband
I can't answer for DW, but I don't think it was a huge concern. We were high school sweethearts, and got married right after college. Parenthood wasn't something we were thinking about for a while.
Plus, by the time we got married, she knew that I was good at everything anyway!

Well-put, and I agree. I would also add patient to that list as well.

Re: How much of your decision to marry your husband
I say 75-100. I knew having children was def in my future, and having a father who was gentle and patient was very important to me. I dated a guy when I was younger who I was totally crazy for, but he was rough ,tough and impatient(translation=JERK) I could never ever marry him(and we came close) the deciding factor was that I knew he would be a very tough father who most likely would hit our children-which would never go over with me! THank God I didnt marry him!!!!

Re: How much of your decision to marry your husband
none at all.
I guess I am selfish. I married him b/c of the way I feel about him. I didn't think about his fathering abilities at all (well, maybe his "babymaking" skills were considered but certainly not his daddy skills)
I think he probably married me in part b/c he thinks I would be a good mom. He calls me the Pied Piper of children.

Re: How much of your decision to marry your husband
When I met DH, he already had a daughter who was 18 years old. I loved that!
He was a great dad. He took her to museums, encouraged her to do art, challenged her with science and math, encouraged her to reason, spent a lot of time with her.
I'm sure this influenced me in how I saw him as a person.
