Thyroid Nodules
Hi all -
Has anyone ahd any experience with thyroid nodules? My husband has had to get a thyroid uptake iodine scan b.c the dr thinks he has a hypoactive thyroid. and then the radiologist found some nodules. He seems to think they are benign but I guess they still need to do an ultrasound. he says sometimes you can develop nodules if u have an uderactive thyroid b.c not enough of the hormones are being replaced????? anyway, can anyone shed some light on this or have a similar experience? Thank you!!

Re: Thyroid Nodules
My husband had those and they took a biopsy (stuck a needle in his neck ) but they turned out benign and caused by Hypothyroidism.
He's been on low doses of Synthroid daily ever since, without a problem.
Good luck!

Re: Thyroid Nodules
I just posted on the other thread...My Mom just had her thyroid out last week because she had nodules on and around it....She had a couple biopsies over the years and everything was benign...Surgery went awesome! She feels great now and didn't even need painkillers afterwards...I know that everyone's case is different but I hope this helps! My Mom also had an underactive thyroid...I know exactly what you are going through because I remember how scary it was for my Mom to get the first biopsy done...Rest assured that everything will turn out ok.

The nodule on my Mom's thyroid was really big and they tried shrinking it with medicine first and it didn't work...Then, my Mom had a seizure out of the blue and the doctor said it happened because of her thyroid condition...So, she had it out last week and everything went very smooth.

Re: Thyroid Nodules
I had nodules on my thyroid for about 10 years. I had repeated sonograms to monitor them, and an occasional scan over that time. When I finally switched doctors, they did a needle biopsy. I ended up having thyroid cancer and my thyroid removed. Surgery went well, treatments went well, and now I'm 5 years cancer free I do have metastatic surveys every few years, just to stay on top of it.
The biopsy is uncomfortable, but I wouldn't say painful.

Re: Thyroid Nodules
I had nodules. I drank a radioactive cocktail about 12 years ago...now I take meds. Yummy, delicious meds!
