So frustrated...what would you do?
Well, as I've posted before, Christopher has quite the appetite. He eats an average of 40 oz a day and it's getting worse and worse. Yesterday he was eating 8 oz every 2.5 hours. Not sure if he's just going through a growth spurt right now or he really needs to eat that much, but it was a bit much. We went to the pediatrician a couple of days ago and I explained the eating situation and she said "He's ready (for starting cereal), but I want you to wait a few more weeks." He'll be 15 weeks tomorrow and I know that it's best to start cereal when they're 4 months old, but if he's ready, why wait? He's going through more than 2 cans of powdered formula a week. Like I said before, it's getting to be a bit much. I'm so tempted just to start the cereal already. What would you do?

How old is Christopher???
I know alot of people whose peditricians started them on cereal when there baby was 3 months old...
I would try a little, see if it helps suppress his appetite!

Re: So frustrated...what would you do?
Have you told your peditirician he's eating 40 oz a day? My ped. would have started him on cereal earlier if he's eating that much.

Yes and though she thinks that he's ready, she's adament about me waiting until the 18th (when he's 4 months old).

I don't see how 2 weeks is going to make a difference - I would give it to him. Some kids need more than formula - he's a healthy growing boy!!!!

Re: So frustrated...what would you do?
I would give him the cereal. 2 weeks won't make much of a difference. Besides YOU are his mother and know what's best for him. The pediatrician is there for medical guidance and advice...do what you think is best.

I agree with the other ladies and would give him the cereal now. Just start off slow and see how he reacts to it.

Re: So frustrated...what would you do?
Thanks everybody! I'm going to start with only one feeding of cereal a day. We'll see how it goes tonight

Re: So frustrated...what would you do?
Chiming in a little late - but around 3 months Kevin jumped to over 32 oz/ day and my dr said it was better to start cereal than give more formula (explained why it is better but I forget it all). So I also started early at 3.5 months and it went very well. I just took it slow and my boy is still a big eater! He loves his solids.

Re: So frustrated...what would you do?
Same issue with Amber...she was going through so much formula and clamoring for more. So we started her on cereal and she seemed much more content. Some may not agree, but I say go for it.

Not so much. I made the mistake of giving it to him when he was really hungry instead of between bottles. He got some down, but he was more interested in his bottle. I didn't try again tonight. DH and I are going away for the next few days, so I'm not going to try again until we get back.

Re: So frustrated...what would you do?
sorry this is late but I started marissa on cereal when she was almost 2 months she was drinking alot of formula and I would give it to her during her last feeding before she went to bed I gave it to her about a 1/2 hour before her bottle feeding and she loved it and then by the time she was done with it she had her bottle and was out cold
