Honestly, even though it's "your" spot, I would stop parking like that. As someone who lives in a neighborhood where parking is quite difficult, it is very frustrating when someone is taking up 2 spaces.

Yea but they are her spots... so even if parking is difficult, you still would not be able to park there.

I say ignore it and keep parking how you have been. Even if you don't take up both spots, do the people who left the note think they could use one of the spots? NO!

However, I would not have left a note like that on your car. I think they should have approached you and spoke to you about it. Maybe the parking "etiquette" is in your complex is that you leave unused spots open for others to park in.

She is still entitled to her spot, whether she uses it or not. What if a couple with 2 bedroom condo has 4 cars and and two another couples with a 2 bedroom condo have one car. Should everybody else who has only one car let the couple with WAY too many cars use their spot? I have learned that in apartment complexes/condos, they are always people who want what is yours just because they "need" it.

I say park how you want

me and my DH have 2 parking spots that we pay for and they are so tight that both of our cars have dings

if we have two spots next to each other- and only 1 car- his would be parked in the middle

Yeah, I agree. We live in a condo and pay for our spot. It is so tight. The people next to us park too close to the white line and it make it impossible to get out. If we had two spots that we were paying for, I would park the same way.

I agree! Its not like they could park there if she didn't park in the middle so whats the difference? I think its just someone who can't mind their own business

Re: Are we wrong? Or are they?

i think they were wrong for leaving the note... but at the same time, seeing a car parked like that would drive me nuts... for two reasons.

1) I'm kind of OCD and not having a car parked correctly drives me nuts.

2) Cars that aren't parked correctly often start a trend of bad parking. Have you ever seen those cars that are a little slanted, which lends to the next car being slanted, and so on... and suddenly an entire spot is lost? I may not make any sense, but that's kind of what i visualize happening...

Yup, some people are just mad at the world and when they see something like this they can't help but say something... even if it doesn't directly affect them.

This is a really good point; however, in our complex you need a remote to open the garage for the parking lot. There is a ton of open parking outside of the garage (unassigned parking for guests/residents), and even inside the garage, there are at least 25 open spots every day and night. The parking lot is NEVER full....

I still wouldn't double park, but that is just me! But from what you said, the note is just rude and unnecessary. And if there is plenty of parking, then double parking doesn't seem like a big issue.

I completely understand your point, but as someone who lived in a house with 4 cars, that were all "needed" because there were 4 drivers, I would give my space to someone who needed it. However, it seems like there is plenty of parking so I do think the note was unnecessary.

I don't think you're wrong; I think that the person who wrote it didn't understand or realize they're yours.

I agree

Re: Are we wrong? Or are they?

you are right...and here is why.....

My parents have a condo in FL. Since they are not there all the time, a neighbor took it upon himself to park in parents spot. His car leaked oil...and my parents had to pay to have the spot fixed. (the associated has some rules about the parking spots remianing clean and maintained)

so if I had 2 spots I would do anything I could to prevent someone else from parking in the spot. you don't need to pay for someone else's damages

Re: Are we wrong? Or are they?

I might park the way you do to "reserve" it for my guests.

For the leaver of the note, unless they want to pay for renting my spot, they should MTOB.

I have to agree with this...the person who left the note may not want to use the spot...they may just feel that it affects the way the parking garage looks and that your DH's parking may start a negative trend.
