letter from Cablevision

Cablevision is telling me my promotional rate for the triple play is over and wants to about double my cable bill.

I'm not having it since both satellite and FiOS are cheaper. If I call and threaten to cancel, any chance they'll continue giving me the promo rate?

We're moving in 2 months, anyway, at which point we will get new service in DH's name and get the promo rate again... but if they'll keep giving me the promo rate, I'll stick with this account.

At least one person has told me this works. Any ideas?

We're moving to a condo in a couple months, so it has to be cable - no FiOS box outside and no satellite dishes allowed. Thoughts?

They may not give you the exact promo that you already have - but they will probably offer you something.

Re: letter from Cablevision

I called and cancelled mine and they gave me a good deal.

But listen to this. A friend of mine emailed me and said he switched over to Fios "TV, Internet and Phone" and two week later a customer service agent from CableVision knocked on his door and asked if he would switch back to CV for $30.00 a month for all three services "Phone, Boost Internet and the DVR TV" for a one year contract....

Not $30.00 for each but $30.00 for all three together Chat Icon

My brother and his GF did this. There triple play was up and she called and said, well then I am switching to DirectTV. They gave them another year of triple play at the $99/month deal.

Re: letter from Cablevision

It doesn't hurt to try it.

When my old one ran out at our old house - it was only $25 more.

So I am not sure why they are charging you soooo much
I would ask them about that.

I wouldn't tell them that you are planning on cancelling in 2 months though.

And when you sign up at the new place - make sure you get them to not charge you more after the first year.
I think that is there new policy - that it doesn't go up on new accounts

We WON'T cancel in Sept if they keep it going.

Their web site states that this promotion is only good for a year, so I don't think the new policy is permanent unfortunately.

Okay, the bill won't really double, but it's going up almost $70 a month. The cable alone is going up $35. The there are the increases in the internet and phone service.

For instance when I was at my old address we had in writing that after the first year - the $ amount will go up $25. (this was under my name)

At the new address (under my DH's name) we have in writing that the $ will not increase after the first year or thereafter.

I must not be good at negotiation. I called and told them I was going to cancel and they said "Okay".

The promotion on tv now says that all existing customers are now eligible for the Triple Play. Now that they have competition, everyone should have the Triple Play.

We moved last month, and we even kept the same name on the account, they gave us the Triple Play.

really? we are existing customers and our bill just about doubled after the 1 year triple play promo was up... do i call and ask them about being eligible for it??? if not, when we sell this place and move into our new one, instead of just transferring the account to a new address, we will cancel it in dh's name and resign up in my name.

But that just means you're only eligible to receive it for a year... so if you've had basic cable for 6 years, you can now add phone and internet and get the same as new customers -- the promo rate for a year.

Does the commercial say you get that rate forever?

But as I just stated in my post above - we just signed up with them in December - and we will always have the triple play for the same amount - forever and ever. It is their new policy

We did the same thing when we signed up in May. The only thing that will change next May is that we will have to pay for our second DVR which we got for free for a year.

I'm just curious how you got that promo deal forever b/c I don't see that anywhere. Online, it states for 1 year only. I'll have DH call when we're ready to move into our new house to ask about that. Maybe they just don't advertise it. I'lll have to ask about that!

How did you get it in writing?

i don't understand how some haven't gotten the deal to continue.

i've seen a few commercials where they're offering the triple play for existing customers also (not just new accounts).

i say call them!

it was written on our initial bill when we ot hooked up at the new house.

And I don't think they advertise it - they told us over the phone when we asked for them to come to the new house.

Re: letter from Cablevision

I found the page about having Triple Play Pricing for existing clients here:link

Calling for clarification.

ETA: The page says the pricing is good for a year and that as of the 13th month it goes to regular pricing with a rewards discount or some such. I am calling.

I was just going to post the same thing. And I saved that bill. I had a million issues with them when we first signed up, soI am really glad we have it in writing.

I had time warner in the city before this and we were never eligible for their 3 in 1 package and when we had all three we were paying like $275/monthChat Icon

I cancelled the phone and it was still $180+ a month.

It is insanity, that is why I made sure to get this in cablevision when we switched over.

Re: letter from Cablevision

Talk to the retention department. Don't bother with regular customer service.

Same thing happened to us. We negotiated and got a reasonable deal.
