Sister Visit

My oldest sister lives in Milan now and DH and I are going to Italy in Sept. We are going to see his family for a few days (we've been promising them for years, before my sis moved there) and to Florence for 6 days. We agreed for my sis and her bf to come down to see us. The thing DH and I will only have one weekend alone together and that's when my sister wants to come. I asked her to come Sunday, rather than Sat. but she doesn't want to, even though they are taking off on Monday. Do you think its selfish of me to want the weekend to ourselves? My sister tends to go to bed early and DH and I want to be able to have a nice dinner, go to cafes, etc. and not worry about them sitting there bored which is likely to happen.

Re: Sister Visit

I don't see why you couldn't go out yourselves even if they go to bed...You could have dinner, then part ways.

I don't have a sister, but if I did and I liked her I think I'd probably want to spend as much time with her as possible. But hard to imagine since I don't have a sister....

I'd just be blunt with her--feel free to come then, but know that we really want to see all of the sights so it will be a long day.

Can you cut short your visit with DH's family?

Nope, they're in another city and our flights are set. I feel bad saying something and DH knows it too. The thing is my sister is very high maintenance - I love her, but I'm often scared to tell her things. Maybe we will just say we're going here, and if you want to go back to the hotel that's fine, otherwise, we're going out.

Re: Sister Visit

If the whole trip is a vacation, no working, then can't you find any other days for just you and DH? Couldn't you do two other days in a row?

I'd imagine if my brothers lived overseas, I'd want to see as much of them as possible.
